I can agree with Jay, it's 100% plausible the Rockports benefited by the liveliness of the sidewall energy, ... however every room needs more damping of LF decay times.

Yeah, this is a perfect example of why you shouldn't rely on a salesman to improve your audio experience. A couple hundred dollars in room acoustic treatment will do more than the thousands they will have you spend on DACs, music servers, pre-amps, cables, risers, etc. Honestly, I feel bad for the buyer with how badly misguided he's been by his dealer. This is all driven more by a gear fetish than a love of listening to music.

Fast bass. Powerful bass. John, the owner, couldn't belive how strong and powerful the Rockport's bass playback was ... Well(!), it's worth noting it's the equivalent of a twenty inch subwoofer, 4(10"s) equal to a 20" carbon fiber composite cone. The monster Gryphon is spreading it's extraordinary power ... across four voice coils, connected to carbon fiber cones, inside over 1000lbs of entirety inert enclosure. Yeah, a 450lb Gryphon, powering 1000lb inert cabinet with a carbon fiber 20" sub with four voice coils! Yep indeed, that's gonna rock the house. Nice system.

John took a look at the ladder and jetpacked his way to the top. Props for putting together a stellar system like that. Great point on needing some liveliness in a room; an over-damped dead room sounds unnatural and frankly "dead". Only mixing studios should be well dampened; listening rooms should have some reverb and predominantly diffusion devices to handle anything bothersome.

In my experience.... With a certain level of expansion of my system I reach a point point where I don't NEED power tanks, filters etc. I invested good money from the power box to the wall socket and the power strip. I replaced 4 earthing cables and a mains filter. Result.... More dynamics, more open sound, more natural voices and instruments ...... Your room treatment….

Well that's a gorgeous man cave 😄 A bit of room reverb can help to make the sound bigger, more ethereal and less analytical. In the end, it's a listening room, not a studio. At very high listening volumes, the reverb could become a problem.

With money being no problem for this guy I would pay a professional to come out and measure your room and professionally treat it. No point of guessing if a panel should go here or a bass trap here. Invest a bit of money into a professional to come out and treat that room and your system will be even better.

@@glenncurry3041 The Gryphon's power supply fed by an appropriate*, dedicated circuit is fine. That's the point of the extraordinary power supply of the Gryphon. I wouldn't want anything between that beast and my panelboard! *Appropriate dedicated circuit = short, dedicated home run, upsized awg, tight connections, etc. While pulsing huge amounts of current draw, maintaining still voltage free from voltage drop is vital. Breakers can pass huge amounts more than their rated amount. A 20a breaker can pass 60 amps or more(!) during a demanding kick drum pulse. If the circuit isn't appropriately robust, performance can suffer during demanding transients. (60a through #12awg wire wire incur voltage drop bottleneck) Yep, big amplifiers powering the bottom octaves, I'd plug them directly into the wall.

Nice system, but there is no magic in the component matching here. All great stuff and pretty common pairings at dealers, give or take an item here or there. The fact that it was purchased blind was a safe bet given one has the means. Rockport and Gryphon pair well together and neither produce anything that might be unpleasant or fatiguing. While I don't think all rooms need treatment per se, a nice Persian rug would help, and it would look great too. A dense Bijar Rug would be perfect. Oh, and a turntable wouldn't hurt either.

Depends on construction. Concrete floors compared to wood floors, hardwood to plywood. Less need to suspend on concrete as it does not transmit the vibrations except surface waves. Many wood floors are open joists underneath. While most walls will have insulation and a back side/ outer wall making them much more rigid that a floor. So walls are typically more solid and thus less likely to transmit vibrations. And the speakers are not sitting on them.
