I personally think Nas is a better MC that Jay, Illmatic is better than anything Jay Z has in his catalog and at that point in time Nas won the battle BUT in the end Jay Z won the war. Nas started cranking out some garbage albums like Nastradamus while Jay transformed himself, putting out the earcandy like Blueprint III while at the same time creating lyrical juggernauts like the Black Album. I always thought Nasir never tried hard enough, he always kept it real but I think Life is Good was the best he could do right now- tank is empty for Esco.....same thing goes for Hov.
