The man at the beginning 3:50 is Michael Cowans he founded (and directed) the Memphis Alumni Band and Memphis Mass Band(along with James Thomas III(Alumni Band & Mass Band) & Kellen Christian(Mass Band)).He has written alot of hits for Memphis highschools and colleges (Wrote Fierce fanfare).He marched at SU and TnSt.He's a legend in Memphis👍🏾

I payed Z's....(20inch Zildjian cymbals &was section leader already reading & writing.....This in like 99' 2000 yrr....sum like that......I am Grateful where GOD has Brought Him From....cuz I SAW the thingz he saw.... Both bands represented and played to their strengths. Memphis got the W by playing classics and top 40 hits that the crowd recognized. Travis and Deonte know how to write to the strengths and expectations of the ensemble. Memphis came for blood. GAMB executed very well, but there were songs I would have not known had I not went to see them the previous week. Big game next week against a very hungry opponent looking for revenge.

Bands in Georgia are notoriously big but the sound doesn’t match at all. Bands in Memphis and New Orleans aren’t as massive and have to lean on skill to get through and it showed in this battle Memphis won this one .

GAMB needs to push the grain for moving parts and countermelody. That many trombones=possibilities for that. Memphis trombones need more presence for harmony and as a whole they need finesse. Other than that they both are 🔥 Mmb with the win.

The irony is that Gamb lost to MMB the same way NOASB lost to them. Lack of balance, arrangements, and song selection. Last summer you can hear every section in Gamb, but they added to the instrumentation and now the trumpets (and mellos) are getting drowned out on most of the songs. The trombones aren't pushing for their size but maybe that is a style choice in their end. Even with the good arrangements GAMB had like under the moon, MMB just responded with something better. I have no problem with trumpets and mellos playing in the meat of the horn in regards to GAMB, But if you want to play a famu or meac style then you have to know to also copy their instrumentation or else you will have this problem of sounding unbalanced being unable to hear the upper brass.

MMB gets the W from me. They were willing to take chances with the arrangements, especially with upper brass. And much more aggressive, kinda like mid 2000's SU or TXSU. GAMB sounded good and clean. But had much simpler arrangements. And i wanted a little more from trumpets n bones with 50-60 a piece.... great battle to kick off the summer tho

I think it honesty depends on what you like to hear. If you want loud MMB got it but if you like balanced then GAMB got it.
