Y'know, it's common to hear about how 6v6 changes the dynamics of the game, from reducing counter-swapping to making the game less steamroll-y, but that's going too deep in the metagame I think. You gotta remember the simple stuff, like that tank combos are just really fun, and can only happen in 6v6.

For tanks, maybe, but all the DPS can do in 6v6 is literally shoot shields 90% of the time, while supports get all of their kill potential taken away by the impenetrable shield wall on main and flex tanks hunting them on the flanks.

That means it spent more time building a foundation for 6v6 having 2 on each role, more than it was for open queue. It would look worse, for everyone. Ballenceing would be harder on devs. Queue times would be harder on players. Due to long dev cycles of patches, players would leave the game be use figuring out what the issues are would be more nuisance. This will lead to people leaving the game. @@probablysteven1325 I feel ya. I've recently gone through a lot of older supertf vids from like 2019-2021, and they're just so much more stimulating to watch! Not only that, but the overall attitude of people was also noticeably better, as in people tended to be less frustrated by the game and less toxic when interacting in voice. (Though to be fair, there's a LOT of reasons as to why that is the case, more than just 6v6 vs 5v5) OW1 was all about getting creative with "proactive plays", whereas OW2 is a lot more "reactionary" in it's moment to moment decision making, which to me is soooo much less interesting to follow. I get the Devs wanted the game to be more casual friendly, as OW1 was a seriously complex game for the masses, but idk, that was such a big part of why so many loved that game to begin with, myself included.

Its just embarrassing for blizzard at this point to have your big main people who are supposedly advertising your game intentionally be dodging the format you're trying to push. With that in mind, they can't really keep up with the charade of 5v5 when it seems like the majority of the playerbase is opting for and supporting 6v6. It's an emperor has no clothes situation, and the general feedback from the latest patch indicates that people are clocking to the fact that blizzard aren't able to balance 5v5 as they just keep drastically changing the game every season to try and make it work and it never works out. The community generally now looks as though its a big majority who prefer 6v6. You can't really ignore that, I don't think, if you're blizzard. Its just not sustainable.

Ironically they even gutted 2 of them to the point they wouldnt work for double shield. Brig and orisa in their current forms would not be built in a way that would make double shield a viable strategy. On top of this, Rammatra himself is not good enough at something like double shield to replace orisa and actively counters it well.

In overwatch 1, the tanks were split up into off tanks and main tanks Characters like ana were alot better to play back then because when you got dived by an enemy, it was the off tanks job to "peel for the supports" aka if im playing dva, because of my speed boosters and damage denial, i would play aggro until i was called to peel and protect an ana from say, genji. 6v6 allows for this because tanks in 5v5 cant really peel, they need to constantly be at the front line taking space. But with two tanks, someone like reinhardt could hold the line while dva, ball, hog, Winston, ect peeled

Holy crap, brought me back to the times when Zarya took a tiny bit of skill to play. You had to time those bubbles so much better because of the cooldown timer and target restrictions(can’t double bubble herself or a target).

I think double bubble Zarya could work in 6v6 if the bubbles had only 150 health, balanced out by now having a health-to-charge ratio of 30% instead of the current 20%. You'd be charging your gun more often and faster, but losing out on some sheer survivability.

I remember when I first played 5 v 5 on the experimental server in OW1 and thought: "this is ass, I hope they don't implement this" and then they announced they'd do it in OW2. Even while playing the beta, and playing OW2 for a few seasons, the 5v5 dynamic STILL isn't particularly fun. Especially as tank. And I used to play tank frequently OW1 but now I refuse to touch the role :)) (and often the game in general)

I started playing Overwatch in early 2017 and played my first ranked season with season 4 before role queue and way before any talk about 5v5. Was manly a Tank player and a Reinhartd Main as a 7ft tall german man swinging a hammer around deeply appealed to me. Of course I played my fair share of Offensive, Defensive (Damage) and Support roles but I loved playing as the tank, leading the charge ,soaking up damage, knowing when to be aggressive and push winning the tank battle to send the enemy team into panic. Nothing quite like it. So I was very disappointed when Overwatch 1.5 came out and basically just removed a tank role which, at least from my experience , just lead to the following. Tank queue got longer because those that still wanted to play tank were all competing for single slots. Your choice of Tank was always quite the debate amongst Teammates and often scrutinized even when picking what they wanted and of course in the later stages of my time playing, getting dropped into a match on the team getting rolled because their tank left with a minute on the clock, losing and getting to sit in role queue for another 15 minutes. So after a few seasons, I think just before ramattra or whatever his name is came out, I stopped playing and haven’t watched anything on it since. And what so you know people are complaining about 5v5 and their solution is going back to 6v6? Their just some loot-boxes away from coming full circle and ending this bizarre fever dream that has been OW2 Edit: just some Grammatical changes

And it’s a finished product. And there you go, the tanks would probably still be strong, but it would work fine.

Nah. I had been complaining for years about how bad tank was. Reinhardt had to be buffed 9 times just to make him playable. Playable, not competitive. Huge difference. During the arcade modes, his buffs were huge, showing the huge gap between playability and competability.

@@nanoassassin8645 From a holistic view, i think that no one really lost out. some tanks were strong before this, but the issue is, when they died, the party suffered which is one of the reasons that people wanted 6v6. however now that tanks are giga buffed, as people put it, the biggest issues with tanks disapear becuase now it is "harder" to kill tanks. Except, it isn't harder to kill them. Take Rien. his counters havent changed. Bastion still shatters his sheild quickly, even though it lasts 2 extra seconds. Rein is still a build around hero. Ramatra still lasts just as long. and still is a counter to all sheild heros.

Elden Ring bosses are more fair and reward skill expression because anyone with skill could technically beat any boss. That’s not the case with Overwatch and 5v5 because the game is dumbed down. Half of the execution comes from the abilities themselves and not the actual players (like OW1 did)

@@thegreatslayer7685 That's not true entirely. I forget what the meta is called, but basically your team plays bunched up. If the team plays like that and you have healers like Bap and Lucio/Moira/Ana, you can sustain the extra damage of another tank on the enemy team. But if your team is more dive-y, or just not playing together, then the added damage from a second tank will make it too much for 2 supports to sustain, so the tanks will inevitably feel less tanky in that scenario. But this was also why 6v6 sucked as attackers. The defenders would post up with double shield and be grouped up, so they could have really good sustain by bap splashing multiple teammates, or ana nading her whole team. While attackers are going to be more exposed and separated while moving.

I was literally watching 5v5 last night and it looked miserable. This looks like an absolute flipping blast. It seems so nice to not have to constantly worry about every single angle yourself, because you actually have a full team to cover the map. You can actually focus on making plays and doing interesting and fun stuff. I also think that there are too many abilities that you can cancel in OverWatch 2. Having abilities that you cannot cancel forces you to think more about how and when you use them. When I play a game I want to be using my brain and making decisions, not just watching a bunch of animations happen.

I think that a 6v6 in today's changes would be much better than a 5v5, as Overwatch is a game that suits 6 players much more than 5, but it is difficult to balance as there would be a lot of ultimate combos Examples: Any combo like Sigma, ramattra, dva, wrencking ball and orisa along with mauga's ult

I don't think it would be "oppressive", it isn't like damage boosted dragon strike + grav combo in the OG days which killed through Transcendence. It just puts importance on having a defensive support ult (which is healthy for the game). And it isn't any different to to something like barrage + cage or high noon + cage or any good DPS ult which probably be better combos due to them being difficult to get value on anyway.

ult combos were not an issue at all in ow1, in fact, it was the most satisfying part imo. but also now, you have heros like bap and kiri can help deny the ult combos, which as much as i hate those heros, i would be more fine with them in 6v6 over 5v5. and even so, people comming, ult tracking, setting up these combos is what made ow1 way better. the game FELT better when these plays were made. and if i was on the receiving end, i never got mad cause i would think "damn i shoulda tracked that better" or "props, they timed that perfectly". the only ppl who like 5v5 are people who should just be playing valorant and people who do not have a brain/like to think.

I wish i was around for 6v6 for one main reason…TANKS NEED THEIR OWN HELP! Two DPS, two support, one tank. The tank has to hide and peel and manoeuvre so much more than what some of them can because of their kit. You ever tried running or peeling back as an Orisa? All you can do is save cooldowns and hopefully not die if you need out.

Who said this mode is polished as has been thoroughly playtested? Because it's not, and because that's what needs to be done if 6v6 was added properly. People way underestimate how much time it takes to playtest every single hero with one another, only after reworking OW2 heroes (who were made from the ground up with one tank in mind), and then polishing everything. All while simultaneously releasing content and tuning the live game, something the creators of this mode do not have to worry about. At best it would take Blizzard 1-2 years to do, sooner if the game was put on hold in order to do this work quicker.

They recycle the same events/content for years. Even some of the skins are just recolored. Almost every character is the same as they were in OW1, some have small changes and a few have had reworks, but most are the same. In reality it’s just a numbers game at this point. They have quick play hacked for a reason, as to test new things. The guy who made the 6v6 mode is a good template for them to use. Stop excusing the dev team that has the time and resources.
