And not everyone is willing to drop $2.6k (almost $3k after shipping) for 1/3 of that to be for a headset (with its own dedicated ecosystem that costs $14/month to play those incredibly small player base games online (the Omni one costs 3 times more than the katwalk, VR treadmills are pretty rare in VR, VR itself is quite uncommon; and most people even thinking about a buy like this are looking to use it with a headset they already have)) they're probably not going to use. My problems with this product (and no I am not hating on the company this is legit constructive criticism): -If this is oriented to the experienced VR user, they are already going to have their go to VR headset and would not want another when using with a VR threadmill (especially because of cost, money would just be sitting when a VR headset that is doing nothing) -Subscription, just no. I saw in a comment it was mentioned that it was specifically for multiplayer games and by extension for the software that runs all this; but I think that most people (including myself) don't see how a subscription for this is reasonable (maybe it is, but that has to be properly explained), TBH I don't think it is, especially with the going price of this device. -This should be made so it can be added to any platform to be used as a peripheral, such as being paired to a quest or being added as one of the devices in SteamVR to use in game. -i am not sure I am sold on how foot movement is translated to ingame movement (maybe I am miss interpreting it), but 2 sensors passing each to track movement sounds like it may have tracking issue with slower foot movement (sneaking in game).

Fundamentally, they just can't break the proper ground. To me it's still slipping around on a plastic disc with shoes coated with lube. Until it's an actual tactile moving belt, it just doesn't hold water for the price.

Knowing this is a couple grand, has a subscription model and requires vr players to rebuy games, its a hard no and I own 3 vr headsets so I've put money into VR, they may stay afloat by companies like dave and busters but I hope they aren't banking on conusmers.

I know technology is really expensive but damn, monthly price, huge price for the treadmill/headset, have to rebuy the games... ooof

that part you said about how it's more exhausting to slip and slide walk then it is to really walk...that seems like a big deal for longevity and immersion for this kind of device

I really don't think this concept is it. They keep iterating on it, and I don't think any amount of improvements is going to make me want one because I think the concept itself is flawed.

Only available in the US. But I must say I probably would have bought it if it was available in Switzerland and I had the option of a monthly payment. It's a great product, I believe it will know some success but as many have mentioned in the comments the subscription for online games is getting heavy, with every company wanting to do it. They will have to explain the full benefits of the subscription ti potential clients. I ordered a Meta Quest 3 recently, I will see what accessories I feel are necessary or that I simply want, ounce I've tried it for a while.

Thanks a lot, Jay. I was waiting for your Katwalk review for a while but eventually I got the opportunity to try it out myself. I don't know if Omni is better, but I didn't like it at all. It being overly exerting as you said, but also since you gotta lean forward to get a good slide with your feet (dunno if Omni requires less of this) and also since most games don't show your feet it brought nearly no immersion to me. I loved the cat intervention with the "E!" hahaha.

And exactly where are you gonna put that monstrosity???? I’ll take VR mats and FreeAir shoes that won’t take up as much space; not even mentioning the high cost and monthly fee

You'd be forever replacing worn parts on top of subscription. If I could buy it use it, and not worry about wear and tear, it would be a a great addition to my VR gaming. Until that day comes I'll stick with controllers.
