Heck yeah!! I already know i'll agree with everything you will say in this video. He's one of the reasons why marineford was so good. His emotional interactions with ace/luffy, his conflict and that moment of weakness as their grandpa is fascinating to watch. Garp made me cry so many times during MF and afterwards too. Ace fanboys can screw themselves. Their hate is unjustified, garp couldn't be held accountable for someone else's decisions especially when he kept warning both of them to not go down that path since he knew this is where it'd lead to eventually.

Top tier content and analysis right here. One thing I keep thinking is how Luffy saw Garp's actions and how their interactions in the future will pan out. We saw Luffy firmly believe that it was Ace's life and choices so I don't think he holds any grudges against Garp (I mean, Garp did allow to be punched down to the ground by Luffy and allow him reach Ace on the platform) but just wonder how the Ace situation affects their familial bonds. As you mentioned, Garp has to live with what he's done and I just wonder if a potential change in his relationship with Luffy is also included in that, not just relationship with Dadan.

I don't think that Ace and Luffy being Marines would've worked out because 1) after Roger died the WG and Marines were hell bent on finding Ace and killing him like the way Akainu was being "thorough" in destroying the civilian ship in Ohara. I beleive if Akainu would have found out there would be a split in the Marines for he would view it as an infiltration of the sons the most dangerous criminals and would wanted them killed putting Garp in same position as the Marineford War. Great video Legend i feel like garp started the revolutionary army and couldnt blow his cover to save ace or it would have blown a 20+ year operation which is why he was constantly trying to make them become marines to keep them safe and train them for when the time would come to fight and change the system from the inside while leaving his son in charge of the actual army so they could amass greater numbers of the people who are getting stepped on by the marines and the world government and even asshole pirates. Of course we still don't have that part of the story but I can also imagine that Dragon's path is part of why Garp was so adamant about Ace and Luffy being marines. His son is considered the most heinous criminal in history and of course with Luffy and Ace's respective bloodlines they couldn't just have a peaceful life when they made it out in the world should it be discovered so Garp wanting them in the marines, where they'd also be closer within his reach, isn't something strange I'd say. If you think that Admirals are not on the same tier as Emperors, do not read any further as whatever you will try to say to me will be wrong as that is the foundation to understand for what follows. Akainu was the strongest marine at Marineford. Remember how easily Akainu was beating Whitebeard (IN THE MANGA). How each of his attacks were precise and way more deadly than Whitebeard's attacks? He also took little to no damage due to fighting the entire Whitebeard crew on his own less than 5 minutes after his fight with Whitebeard. Garp was more or less equal to Whitebeard in his prime. And each Admiral had an edge over Whitebeard in their brief clashes. I believe that Akainu would have won pretty comfortably over Garp. Not to disrespect his character, but I don't see how someone in their prime who is destined to fight the future Pirate King, could lose to someone who is out of their prime and fought with the now deceased Pirate King. In order for Luffy to become Pirate King, he has to surpass Roger's legacy and all of the Emperors/Admirals (as stated by Don Chinjao).

Just as he said, people throwing shade at and hating Garp for not saving Ace are represented by Dadan. We as the reader and Dadan as a bandit outside of the law don't have to or miss taking repercussions into account. And in this video Jay is represented by Makino. Gonna add my two cents here, at the part where Garp angrily asked Ace why couldn't he be a marine. Well all know deep down the Gorosei would not allow Ace to be a marine. Whether Garp had influence or not. No way in hell. The Bartilla(whatever the name of the place Ace mother comes from) incident where marines were butchering pregnant women to kill the seed of the pirate king. An incident no doubt signed by Sengoku's own hand, is downright disgusting in my eyes. Ace would never be trusted or safe within the marines and they would find every excuse to assasinate him at all costs. Same with Luffy if he decided to be a marine. As the son of the world's dangerous man, they would not entertain the idea period. So them being marines was a pipe dream at best.

Each successive generation of the monkey d family seeks higher levels of freedom. Each member of the family is also in one of the major entities in the one piece world. World Government (Kong), Marines (Garp), Revolutionaries (Dragon), Pirates (Luffy). And I'm sure each is also trying to change the world for the better in their own way to their own view. Garp didn't let ace die, I think he still had a small like a very small part of him who 100% believed that ace would survive and escape and he never believed that Marineford was the palce where ace would die ; When he took the punch form luffy I think that is a moment his believe in ace surviving was at a maximum and believed luffy but then when ace meet his fate , it was as big as a shocker to garp like to us readers and completely broken down for that moment .
