yeah hody is for real one of the most realistic and "human" villains in one piece in a way. he's just a genuine sociopath who sees how hate can be used to control people, and wants his hands on the controls. the man will lie, kill allies, stab anyones back to get himself ahead, because that's how he learned society worked. he doesn't even really, deep down, hate humans as much as he hates not being the guy who gets to be superior

I personally have always held Fisher Tiger in a very high regard, primarily because of how strong his hatred was, but that hatred never clouded his mind to how things needed to change. His resentment was his fuel, not his compass, so to speak. And all of that informed Jinbei's approach to the world once he became a leading man in his own right. Lastly, side note not to be understated, but huge shout out to Oda. His characterization of concepts that he probably only has an academic understanding of: slavery, discrimination, rape (& survivors), disenfranchisement, etc, and to be able to so clearly illustrate the effects & ramifications of those notions... the guy is several levels ahead of all of us.

You guys are 100% on the money. Thinking back, we as a community have heavily downplayed and not highlighted enough just how amazing and important of a character Jimbei really is. I’ve always liked him as a character but this really helped emphasize how great of a character he actually is. Regarding Hordy, I’ve always said that he was a great villain but horrible antagonist. He embodied what generations of abuse and hatred can create: blind hate. Much like racism, it’s been passed down to the point that the original reason for it became irrelevant. However, he was weak and lacked personality outside of his hatred for humans, so I get why people didn’t like him too much.

One Piece is darker than people understand. The whole thing is about politics, slavery, racism and justice. Beyond all the Haki and Devil Fruits... there's a lot of political things in the background. Fisher Tiger is like a MLK who tried to fight for Love and Queen Otohime is more like MLK whereas Arlong and co. was like Malcom X who hated Humans for being mistreated and enslaved. MLK saw past the hatred and understood we needed to overcome hatred and anger to progress; Malcom X saw otherwise, he hated white people and most people would go this route. Gorgon sisters were slaves and it's implied they were raped. Celestial Dragons disregard life of people other than themselves. Treat people like nothing. The Navy allows it to happen despite fighting for "Justice". One Piece is not just a story about action, it's a story about life. The story might be hilarious, but there's a lot of darkness in the series and this is part of what makes One Piece great. You read this story as a kid, it's just fun and then you mature, and begin to see all of these aspects and depth to the story.

Saul These guys really are most underrated yet so GOATed in the series Especially I love Noland a lot and I mean a lot I hope he could be someone important in the story later on cuz by dressrosa we know Noland visited new world too so he travelled not only paradise but new world too. Do people actually hate Fishman Island. That arc was so real. I mean before it and Sabaody, the perception was that Fishmen are villains. Look at how easy it was even for the audience to dislike them before knowing the historical context. Hate is often a sign of ignorance. The fault was using Arlong to Judge all Fishmen vs just Arlong being judged for his own actions. Okay let me stop.

I love Fishman Island arc. I love the ideologies of different characters like Otohime, Fisher Tiger, and Hody. I liked Hody as a villain because for me he is unique. He is not your typical strong villain. He is just a nobody who resent humans not because he grew up facing discrimination like Arlong and Fisher Tiger but because of what he hears from the environment (Fishman District). I love the theme that Oda wants to show the readers. Sorry if it was long haha.

The blood transfusion scene will age better than Bink's Sake in Joyboy's wine cellar in Laugh Tale. As far as current times, we do need to let go of the hate because otherwise, the cycle continues. If people keep pulling out receipts of the past, ooooooh we can keep going till all humans hate animals for killings us back when we were sharpening rocks. Fisher Tiger realized he could never be the blank canvas that fishmen children were, however he could taint the children with his hatred by everyone finding out his true cause for death.

Can I just say that during the Reverie arc when that Celestial Dragon who was saved by Otohime turned into a good /decent guy that hit me really hard, it honestly surprises me how lesser talked this moment is but also not surprising considering how hype the other moments in the arc were. I disagree that Fisher Tiger died for his principles. I think he died purely for his hatred. And I think that makes Fisher Tiger's death one of the most tragic in the series. He wanted to live above his hatred and live by his principles. But, despite him doing his best to take the high road, when it came down to it he just couldn't accept the idea of human blood in his veins. Fisher Tiger's hatred defeated his ideals. That's why he cried as he died. He was admitting defeat. This great man could not defeat his own hatred. That's the real tragedy. Fisher Tiger and Otohime in one flashback was almost too much tragedy to handle. I have mixed feelings on Fishman Island arc overall (showing how strong Strawhats are makes the tension/drama weak), but the overall themes and the flashbacks were incredible.
