Your comment is so bang on the money. When athiests start trying to take a stance of having better morals it's absolutely baffling because in their worldview good and evil isn't even a thing. If Darwinism and the material world is all that matters then why would you even bother attempting to be moral? You can advance on this earth in a material sense far easier without morals holding you back. Their insistence on humanism leading to better morals absolutely contradicts their humanistic worldview.

Thanks for continuing to make content. I love watching the debates between you and Protestants in particular right now. I am baptized as a Protestant, but found the Desert Fathers stories years ago. I have been learning about orthodoxy through people like you on John Pageau. Without the information you and people like you put out I would have dropped Christianity all together. I could not make sense of it all until orthodoxy explained it. I hope more people come to the truth. I want to convert and start participating in the sacraments soon. I agree that it's not necessarily great for most inquirers to care about the canons. Orthodoxy is best learned by just being present at the Liturgy and the services and building a prayer life. You'll learn more theology by listening to the hymns than you will by studying (though both are needed). We have all the time in the world to look into the canons after we've entered the Church and are Orthodox Christians. I'm an analytical person and asked the same questions you did initially, so I'm not knocking you. It's just good to follow your priest's advice and practice humility. You can look in a book called The Rudder to read the canons.

Can anyone answer this.. Is the sacrament of marriage seen the same in Lutheranism as it is in Roman Catholicism? (I know it’s not a sacrament in the Lutheran church) this goes back to a convo with a prot about cannon 1141 of the Latin church on death essentially nullifying marriage in their view. The prot was arguing they have the same view of marriage as the Orthodox outside of the fact that we consider a sacrament.

@@LadyMaria Firstly Orthodoxy does allow for annulment, the difference is we utilize them far less and for far more reasonable causes. In the RCC marriage is seen as a legal contract and is enforced in so far as the participating parties are still alive. We can see canon law #1141 says “a marriage that is Ratum et consummatum can be dissolved by no human power and by no cause, except death.” So yes for a RC to divorce they must find a defect in the ritual, consent, or the partners pre martial standing that would nullify the marriage. We can see what makes a Catholic marriage valid from the United States conference of catholic bishops which breaks it down into 6 categories. If any of these 6 categories are not met the marriage is annullable. A full list of reasons for an annulment are listed in title 7 of the Catholic code of canon law, canon 1055-1165. But RC’s always appeal to canon 1095 for an annulment. The issue with that appeal is that it’s a catch-all when none of the other valid reasons can be applied. For instance if one spouse commits adultery or abandons the other spouse an annulment cannot be granted because a defect was not found prior to the marriage being contracted. And children of annulled marriages are still considered legitimate according to canon 1137 of the code of canon law.

My answer would be that "World" Orthodoxy is not disobeying any law. The canonical church has the right to decide its calendar since it's not a dogmatic issue. The Old Calendarists are so ultrarigorous, they become heretics without understanding it. You don't create your own hierarchy because you disagree on something with the established one. That's Protestantism. And it's not even a matter of faith. For instance, if our Patriarch starts wearing a white camellaucum instead of black and I disagree with that, I can't create my own hierarchy and claim "true orthodoxy" for "keeping the tradition" of black camellaucum.

@@Presbapterian In Mark of Ephesus' time much, much more was at stake. The very existence of Church, Faith and Country. The first ones by the Latins the last by the Ottomans. What did Mark do? Create a new Church that didn't sign Florence? Or stayed inside it and fought? If even these circumstances didn't require the establishment of new hierarchy, bishops, patriarchates etc, you understand that a mere calendar that is not dogmatic and holy in itself cannot justify it. Even if it was and tthey think the Church is in the wrong they should fight heresy inside it. Not create another. This was never a solution to any crisis in its history. This way they're off to begin with.
