Hey James, there's a trick about 360 and 430, if you want to avoid breaking the door handle (happens eventually..) - most people pull the handle and then pull the whole door through the handle. You shouldn't do that to preserve the handle... you should open the door by pulling the handle and then open the door wide by grabbing the side of the door rather than pulling the whole door by the handle. Don't know if im clear...

Well I found it informative, even if others perhaps didn't. It was a good way to make content out of a "situation" as well. One thing I was advised to do when starting my 550 was to put ignition on, and wait for the ECU to do its diagnostic, and then (hopefully!) show a "CHECK OK" on the dash display, and then start the engine. This helps avoid a possible ECU fault. Same goes for the 355 as well I think?

On the round Ferrari fuel filler cap it’s worth lightly greasing the screw thread. On my 1993 Mondial 3.4 pressure in the fuel system made it extremely hard to turn the cap, grease helps. It still resisted & a socket wrench plus a 3-pronged device to remove an oil-filter, works well! On earlier Ferrari’s the radiator needs bleeding by unscrewing a knurled brass bleed valve. 308GT4’s have them

Watching you get in and out of the F40 was my amusement for a slow work day. Great video, and not too condescending, which is a difficult balance given the subject. Remember my first 360 drive (near Le Mans, thrown the keys by the owner (who had been drinking) with the car surrounded by French kids, who I was then expected to take for a drive around the town), had no problem starting the car, getting in was an issue as stamped on the accelerator of the already running car (for that max revs sound appeal!). Then with one of said kids already installed in the passenger seat, asking questions in broken Frenglish, I had no idea where the light switches were (it was about 10pm and they were necessary) trying not to look stupid for 'les enfants'! As you said, once installed and everything running was simple and entertained about 12 kids for an hour or so.

Interesting video to introduce people to driving a Ferrari. Have to say I would disagree with blipping an F1 box yourself on downchange - I can't see anyway of timing this well enough to coincide with the clutch being engaged/disengaged and of course the car already does it for you. However, you can be accelerating hard and call for a down change which in the case of the 16M will engage SF2 60 millisecond gearchanges on the down change - people often assume it is only available for upchanges. The other thing to mention is that the F1 box isn't sequential so does allow for jumping gears, particularly useful for an overtake. Also worth noting the Schumacher bumpy road setting is only available in Race or above, pushing it in Sport does nothing - CT is the perfect dry road mode.

A great tutorial on what to expect if you're lucky enough to test drive a Ferrari. I can't imagine the dealer allowing a stranger to drive the car alone. Lets drive a 458 or am F12 to get an idea of a V12 GT vs a mid-engine. The Roma may drive great and have updated electronics but it doesn't look like a Ferrari in the grill and tail areas. I'd get a Portofino and that way you have the retracting hardtop too.

My first Ferrari drive was taking an acquaintance’s Rosso Corsa Testarossa from Sheffield to Edinburgh, 190 miles for a service that was included in the purchase price. It had done 20+K miles. Started off going over M62 in driving rain. Quite scared, big 5 litre lump behind me, massive tyres, RWD. Behaved impeccably. Weather improved on M6 & it just loped along so comfortably at 90 eating the miles. At M6 services parking wasn’t easy with those huge tyres. It took up 1 1/2 spaces cos of width & crowd gathered to look at it. Bit of fun with open gate gear-lever on the A roads driving east: got out fresh as a daisy at Edinburgh despite the seats looking so thin. I loved it. Not a sports car but a proper GT that could cover continents. I described it as like a very big friendly and powerful but good natured horse. Only regret? Volunteering to fill it with petrol. Credit card took a big hit!
@AntoniusTyas5 ай бұрын
I think that's what Testarossa has always been designed to do. Yes it has the engine in the middle and yes it has supercar looks, but it is a grand tourer through and through. Even the boot at the front is cavernous. Sounds like a joyous trip, I think.

The first Ferrari I drove was the F355 F1 in 2000 and I never forget the salesman telling me on the first drive to be careful with the brakes! We know they are fast cars, but they also stop faster too! Therefore, anyone on your tail at high speed will not be able to stop as quickly causing risking a prang! At high speed, you do need to check your mirror to ensure the car behind has the required stopping distance should you jump hard on the brakes!

This may not have been a planned video but I do like the occasional random video like this, telling us the sort of stuff most of us would never otherwise hear. A standard F430 is similar in performance to my 981CS (few tenths either way on most tracks, identical on the 'Ring) but I know a few people who have driven the F430 and all say it's a bit mad which the 981 is not at all, so I'd love to drive one to see how they compare. ...also, not a fan of having capacitive buttons for everything, what's wrong with buttons? While not impossible to learn their positions, it's a lot harder to be sure you're pressing the right button without looking.
@JayEmmOnCars3 жыл бұрын
The F430 is totally different experience to a 981. Track time numbers are so misleading. Real world performance might even be similar, but the feel and sensation of the Ferrari is a world away from the 981.
@ApothecaryTerry3 жыл бұрын
@@JayEmmOnCars Thanks, that's pretty much what I'm expecting- while I suspect the 981 is faster down a B road in the hands of anyone sane, I feel like pure performance was never entirely the point of a Ferrari- they have some magic that puts a big grin on your face by just sitting in one whereas a Porsche really doesn't feel special until you poke it. Is it blasphemous to say I actually prefer the way the 981 sounds though?
