I bought a 2007 Auto 4.2 in 2011 for £28k with 40k on the clock. I’ve still got it now at 90k and loved every minute. Servicing is reasonable, cheap even with an excellent local dependent. And contrary to some other comments here I’ve had NO corrosion, other than a small amount of bubbling just at the underside of the door mirrors. The auto box is super reliable as is the engine. Spare parts ARE expensive - front discs and pads will cost you £1500. And on a 1000 round trip to and from Goodwood - Edinburgh I averaged just under 30mpg. If you’re tempted pile in. Great car.

Hi JayEmm, loving your content! I bought a QP new in 2008. It was the 4.2l with a ZF box. I loved it for 10 years until the bills got too much , then for 3 years I started to get angry at the thing.The last 3 years cost me £15,000 in servicing and fixing faults. One fault was the alarm that turned itself on automatically after 30 seconds but didn't actually lock the doors. Foskers , then McGrath Maserati both failed to find the fault. I wish I had known about Sports Italia as both Foskers and McGrath had my eyes out for any work they did. I did roughly 42,000 miles in my 13 years. I took it to Le Mans and even to the Nurburgring (a very pleasing 9 minutes 10 secs lap, I did used to race a 1963 Ford Galaxie so the Maser handled like a dream compared to that) Michelin tyres are far superior to the Pirelli's in my opinion, I wish I had changed brands a lot earlier. The heated seats I had in the front were superb. The demisting as you say is a joke. My battery would go dead after only 2/3 days which was very frustrating until I bought a trickle charger for it. Keep up the good work.

@@markplumtree1605 bought a car for a bargain many years ago... the battery would be flat in 4-5 days, and all it was, was the bonnet/hood rubber grommet missing. There was a transmission leak from the solid pressure end pipe to a brittle rubber section also, but long story short, I grab bargains like this yearly... best problems I've solved are old transmission oil when viscosity lowers and the cars go into limp mode... The QP5 I bought was a Singapore import, and no one wanted it, for fear of dreaded gremlins... apart from sticky buttons, it's a brilliant example with 34,000ks on the clock.
@markplumtree16053 жыл бұрын
@@peterlattimore6013 I wouldn’t call it a bargain as I bought it brand new. To have so much rust underneath at the front and very leaky rear wheel arches at the back was very disappointing. As I said I loved it for ten years before the faults and bills mounted up. I drove it around town mostly so only averaged about 15mpg and that was driving it gently. It was once picked up by a driver from Joe Macari and he managed to race it back to their factory and achieve 7mpg. U.K. car tax is also nearly £600.00 which isn’t ideal. One of the other reasons I sold it was because of all the speed humps in my area, very tedious!
@visionist73 жыл бұрын
@@markplumtree1605 that's not bad tax compared to its native Italy. Any car above 250bhp pays a "Supertax" on top of normal tax for every KW above that power. For a new QP the total tax would be about 3500 Euros a year. The Supertax is gradually reduced as the car reaches 5, 10, 20 years old etc, but it's still managed to basically destroy the performance car market in Italy. Whoever came up with it should be bayoneted.

A very fair and accurate review - the seats offer no support whatsoever, and I suspect you didn't have the TPMS option checked which is a good thing... they're a nuisance. But all those things rapidly melt away when you hear that soundtrack in sport mode... it's magnificent and the harder you push it, the better it sounds. BTW - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is the best rubber for these, widely accepted that P-Zeros on this car don't perform well in the UK.

Pitty about the seats since these are trimmed in alcantara so they are the grippiest setup they made, my only suggestion would be for you to start wearing corderoy pants and jackets to increase the friction coefficient, but that would compromise your trademark look and we don't want that...

This and the E46 are the most beautiful modern saloons made. I have to admit I never even considered one due to the reputation they have. I'll have it in proper old man spec please, maroon/purple with tan interior. Thank you very much.

Thank you for your indepth personal review of ownership, audio, video, explanation, editing & content. Currently shopping for a 5th generation with ZF transmission, low miles & well kept. Consumers just don't understand a high performance vehicle, it needs to be revved & driven hard after the engine, transmission, differential, tires & brakes are warmed up. Consumers are quick to complain about price & availability of parts & service. Parts are expensive to inventory ( capital, time, real estate ) storing parts is diminishing returns on investment. Good quality expert service cost money.

I've been liking the Quattroporte since I was 10, however, as I know more about big sedans, I think I'll get a W221 S500L if I can afford one, because I think a relaxing drive, a strong engine and a supple ride with okay handing is what I actually want a big luxury sedan to be, maybe that's because I've become more sophisticated after these 11 years

The opening is briljant…. As a Maserati-driver I can tell you: loose the Pzero’s! Buy Michelin Ps4s; you can thank me later😎 (great review, btw!!)

I have owned a 1986 420 Biturbo for 8 years and loved it. Only used it as a second car, apart from a few weeks per year in summer. Bought it as a first owner car from a dealership in Italy, where it had been sitting in a warehouse for 12 years. 43.000 Kms on the clock at the time, it still looked and smelled new! I specifically went for the most basic Maserati there is: no electronic injection, no electronic ride adjustment, no intercoolers, no ABS, no power steering, a single exhaust and quite regular size tyres. It did have airconditioning, which was basically all I needed. It was dead cheap when I bought it, invested the same amount again to get it on the road and drove about 10.000 kms over 8 years without any problems worth mentioning. I remember vividly how it was about the most trustworthy and reliable car during a track event with the Maserati club. :D

My ex son in law has a Maserati Quattro Porte 2010, and a 2008 red Maserati convertible. To my amazement he has had absolutely no problems with either car!

Hi @JayEmm, thanks for these videos, I've been enjoying your wide range of performance/classic car coverage. I would love to see a video covering the Maserati Ghibli, especially the Diesel. Although I wouldn't necessarily go for the Diesel in a perfect world, the pricing of these versions at the moment are very interesting as an alternative, seemingly economical family car.

You did a decent job of describing the delight in moving the big unit around country lanes in a manner that should not work. Anyone considering QPV - GET A DRIVE it is awesome. You have the second best niche modern maserati in the Sport GT-S. The only step up from there is the Stradale, which you will no doubt have seen, heard and witnessed from Matt at SportsMaserati. After 9 years with a QPV it still makes me grin, and surprises friends. My own (inferior) 2006 model has the admittedly smaller 4.2 which has 10% fewer HP. The cam action above 5000rpm is still astonishing in a big limo and is worth every pound spent / wasted on fuel. Thought that feature was only in the ealiest dry dumped cars, but seems not. For sure the ZF gearbox makes more sense in a huge car. The F1 system is a long way from being rubbish , as lazily re-toold by many journalists. The driver needs to adapt and use the paddles, same as the ZF. Maybe I have just been lucky but still on the same clutch, after 9 years and 50k miles. The same system is in the Stradale albeit with improved software. Will be watching to see which model tempts you next.

I had a 07 Gransport, for 8 years it never let me down , put a full Larini back exhaust on it and it was wonderful. It was the 4.2 dry sump version of your engine. Yes the odd electrical gremlin which was cured by a restart and all lights cleared. Very practical really… during that sweet spot period when Ferrari were running the show, I sold it the minute I knew all the current crop and shape were coming out to take the brand down to 5 series BMW territory. They have been an absolute disaster for brand and just as a car really. Such a shame to see a brand with more history than even Ferrari get trashed.

Well done for your comment about Top Gear and others taking these on the track as part of ‘testing’! Great review, as usual! By the way, my E320 CDI estate is not doing well, but come and test my stylish black/tan leather Collezione 147 whenever you you become desperate to test something with 120bhp!

I was looking forward to this! Thanks for sharing your ownership with us. My opinion of Maserati? Mainly through rose tinted glasses at the early cars, the A6G, the Mistral and the Ghibli coupe of the early 70s amongst others. It good to see that recent Masers can match up with its decendants.

I love them I just wished they'd reduce the parts price for older cars, that's the killer and it harms the residuals. From 2004 to 2017 I had 2 x 3200 GTs, a QP 4.2 GT and 2 x 4200 GTs and prob covered over 50k miles in them in total. Apart from the main power cable to the alternator chafing on the head casting on a 4200 GT and nearly setting the car on fire after stranding me, they never failed to get me from A to B. Servicing isn't ruinous but if any part is required that is unique to Maserati it costs a bloody fortune and takes about 2 weeks to arrive.
