I live in Sapporo, so I have a whole bunch of fantastic Japanese options all around me (and I avail myself of 'em, to be sure!). But I still make it a point to pop into the McD's in Susukino (across the intersection from the famous "Nikka Whisky Guy" sign) a couple times a month. Japanese McDonalds is that good. Bonus: the food you get in your order actually looks like the food on the menu pictures.

That's awesome! We can totally agree with everything you're saying - in McDonald's in Japan, you can get what you want (based on pictures) and pay a fair price for it while enjoying it (VERY MUCH) at the same time too 😍 We wanted to badly to visit Sapporo and overall the island of Hokkaido but this time around we've been travelling only to warm countries and going there Nov/Dec time would mean changing all our clothes haha

McDonald's in Japan is honestly way better than anywhere else in the world. The staff take pride in their work, following procedures properly so you end up with freshly made burgers not dripping with grease like you get in the UK. Probably because unlike the West, Japanese people dont want to eat fried food that is swimming in grease.
@ambustus12 күн бұрын
I agree. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a burger fast food place after getting off work and the burger and fries are cold and old here in the USA. I think it's a cultural thing cause Americans think they are to damn privilege. Don't care. It's disgusting.

Couldn’t agree more! Whenever we travel to a new country, we can’t help but wonder how McDonald’s will compare. It’s always fascinating to see the differences! 👀 In Japan, though, it was a completely different experience. Everything was incredibly tasty: fresh, light, and not overly greasy. It didn’t even feel like fast food! Plus, the bright and playful packaging made it all the more appealing 😍👍🏼

We like Mos Burger but the sandwiches are too small and we’re still hungry afterwards. The food at Lotteria is pretty good but the prices are higher than McDonald’s.

Although, you can appreciate it more in some countries :) We've never tried MOS Burgers (something for the next time!) but the Lotteria ones were delicious too - it's just the price that doesn't really make us have it more often, but to our surprise McDonald's in Japan was very affordable 🥳

Poor Grimace, he has been forgotten after not being used in the US or UK for so long. Back in the 70s, 80s and 1990s, Grimace was part of the McDonald's mascots like Ronald McDonald and Hamburgler. But since the late 90s, the US and UK have stopped featuring them in commercials or packaging, so not surprising the younger people don't know them.

I think people have the holiday blinders on saying McDonald's is so much better in Japan because I went back to the UK last May and had McDonald's in Piccadilly, (doing so specifically to make a comparison) and frankly I felt the tastes were pretty interchangeable. the burger was definitely a tiny bit drier than the japanese version but besides that i didnt sense any major change and if I'm honest I felt like the British cheese was slighty more flavourful. I'd like the Japanese one better though because of the juiciness of the patty and the presentation. Now if you want to talk about regionalization then definitely Japan has something to offer that you won't find in other countries, for example the teriyaki burgers or the legendary Samurai mac (so 👍😊) as well as certain flavors of shakes such as Macha or the rice or shrimp burgers.

I haven't tried to use the English translated menu at McDonald's Japan. I think they did wrong translation because you don't know what is Sankaku. Sankaku is a triangle in Japanese. Also, the delivery man had to tell which drinking straw you have to use. You guys gor wrong one each. Jay had to pick the drinking straw with spoon. Perhpas you didni't realize it was spoon. You could spoon up your float with the spoon straw. Perhaps, Japanese think you would know it because that drinking straw don't get in the other drink's lid. Maybe that's Japanese service. Sorry.

Having McDonalds back in the UK has always either been a bad experience or (at best) a 'meh, it's alright' experience... Whilst I am happy with having the occasional McDs in Japan (often getting either the prawn or chicken teriyaki burger). The food market in Japan is highly competitive, and even Western fast food chains have to up their game if they want to survive here. Unlike, say back in the UK, where McDs knows that they can just continue serving absolute sh*te and poor service.
