British new wave bands in the 80s was kind of a genre itself. Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Pet Shop Boys, Human League,Orchestral Manouvers in the Dark, Simple Minds..man I could go on. I’d love to hear you react to more of them. The granddaddy of them all Roxy Music deserve a reaction. Love Is The Drug, Avalon, Dance Away. Think you’d love a lot of their stuff.

@@silentqueue2344 I won't apologize for being old past dead but wtheck is AFOS? Perhaps a playlist of geniuse's best songs. I choose every Harold Budd/Brian Eno collab. I always have SALS (spaceagelovesong) in my repertoire. Please, 3 examples from above-mentioned bands. Keepin' it simple for the microwave retards. Three songs, please. When I want Jamel's attention on a classic he never heard of I type it over and over and keep it simple. I'm not saying that Jamel has been blinded by microwaves but when he hears the good stuff he knows it. Keep it absurdly simple, please. Sometimes Americans need to sit down, stfu, and listen.

This is just *_ONE_* of the tons of songs that defined the 80's from Post Punk/New Wave bands like Modern English. Same goes for Goth/Darkwave/Synth/Coldwave/Shoegaze etc. etc. bands which almost always get overlooked or flat out ignored by most people who just settle for listening to the trendiest and most popular music on radio or mainstream playlists. Many bands like Modern English are sometimes only known for one song like this one, especially in the U.S. and other western countries when in reality, they have lots of awesome songs that rival or even exceed their "hits". It's what I've mentioned to Jamel in the past on other videos. There's *_TONS_* of great and awesome music out there other than just the hits from the most popular and trendy bands or artists that he unfortunately seems to mostly focus on...

Thanks Jamel, this is mine and wife's song. This was a wonderful thing to wake up and see and hear. Both of us grew up in the 80's and share our love of much of the music from that era. We didn't meet until the early 90's but we often share our love of that genre of music then and now. We have been married now 29 years. Our son, who grew up listening to that music is also a fan because it was always present in our home. My only critique to your summation of the song is that I never saw it as a end of the world scenario song. To me and my wife, we hear the words "I'll melt with you" and think of blending our selves, physically, mentally, and spiritually together. To us, the 'Melting' is our bond together. When the words, "I'll stop the world" is sung we see it as taking that moment away from the craziness of life and existing only in that moment together. But, you do you. You have your own ideas and I'll not fault you that. This song doesn't mean that much to you as it does us. Everyone is allowed their own interpretation. Thanks again for including this song today though.

This was the last call song at the bar I hung out in during college. So today 30 some odd years later I still hear in my mind. "Please, remember to tip your bartender!"

The challenge was always being able to sing the EXACT words as fast as Michael Stipe could. 😁 I could get most of 'em. 💞

“I was definitely stoned when I wrote it,” says Robbie Grey. “It was during the day, I remember it really well. I sat down on the floor of my flat in London, a cheap place in the housing association, and wrote the verse just straight off in about 10 minutes.” As the stream of lyrics flooded out in apocalyptic visions and other imaginary states, there was “I Melt With You.” The message: Make love as the world dissolves and melt into one. Moving forward using all my breath Making love to you was never second best I saw the world crashing all around your face Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace That was it. Cusping Modern English’s 1982 sophomore release After the Snow, Grey’s momentary creative inebriation resulted in one of the most infectious pop anthems, and the calamitous tale of love still resonates nearly 40 years later. “It does feel like the world is coming to an end, doesn’t it?” ponders Grey, who says he tends to lean on the darker side when it comes to pop songs. “What I’ve always tried to do with the pop songs is put some dark stuff in there. When you live in England, there’s a lot grey. I’m pretty sure that’s the reason you get a lot of good music from here. It has to do with the climate, because you spend a lot of time indoors.”

My favorite thing about new wave/80s pop is that you can hear how much English kids were crazy about Motown. If there were strings instead of synths and American singers it could totally be soul music.

You got it! The new wave or second wave of the punk revolution exploded in the 80's. This band was part of that and this song an important part. The humming pause is him stopping the world to love his woman. Many wedding receptions contained this song. Also used in the movie, Valley Girl, with Nick Cage and a phenomenal soundtrack.

This got lots of exposure in the movie Pretty In Pink, the house party scene. I think it also may have been used for a few seconds in the movie Weekend At Bernies. But for college radio, this got lots of play, along with Tears For Fears "Shout", Human League "Don't You Want Me", Flock Of Seagulls "Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)", Soft Cell "Tainted Love", Laura Branigan "Self Control", and Greg Kihn "Jeopardy" -- all of which are twisted love songs for Valentines Day and Sweetest Day.
