Tony Ochs, I was blessed growing up in Michigan in the 80s because there was a lot of great rock coming out of Canada back then and we would hear it all the time. We would go out of state and to my amazement most people had never heard some of the great music from there.

My biggest problem with rush is just the parts of music that go too happy and disney sounding. Like most of 2112, they get into these awesome music pockets and get all proggy with it and it starts to sound heavy,,, and without fail, Geddy starts playing a major scale, and Alex plays some super corny happy disney riff shit. And all the awesome tension and heavyness melts away as geddy starts singing like a Christmas elf , using super L Ron Hubbard Neal peart sounding lyrics while Lifeson plays a major chord progression…but it’s in 11/8 …so it’s cool.
@chrishenderson420
@chrishenderson420 2 жыл бұрын
@@XViTNg Hah, ya I've heard similar complaints lol. Most people that aren't into rush is because of geddy's voice and the fact that they don't really fit into any genre except prog rock. They go from heavy AF to melodical elfish style music all of a sudden lol. That's why I love them though, they can play anything and make it sound amazing.

The best part is that while Canada got amazing bands like this, in the US we got Zebra, The Police, Blue Murder, Crosby, Stills and Nash and ZZ Top. The UK probably topped us all with Cream and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Those 2 decades so so many magical trios that could hold their own with much bigger bands (not bigger in popularity, just in band size).

Being Canadian, I am proud to say that there are many great bands from our country that I have been listening to all of my life like Rush, April Wine, The Guess Who and Triumph. Growing up in the 80's, there were many Canadian bands that I listened to and still listen to that are not as well known outside Canada with great melodies and lyrics such as Helix, Honeymoon Suite, Platinum Blonde, Glass Tiger and Haywire. Jamel, these are some bands worth checking out. A couple of 90's bands include Our Lady Peace and Big Wreck. A few songs include Diamond Sun by Glass Tiger, The Oaf by Big Wreck and Sad Sad Rain by Platinum Blonde.

@@LA-fz5qw I’m in my mid twenties - I was working in a hospital pharmacy with a pharmacist (late 50s) who liked rock (journey, Boston, you know, stadium rock bands). I asked him if he ever had heard of Triumph and he said “no”. A few weeks later I heard him singing Fight the Good Fight. :)

Great Canadian trio, did a lot of well known rock songs in the late 70s and early 80s. Quality guitar work and singing from Rik Emmett. Others have already mentioned their other great tracks.

My first job as a teenager was at a music store in Toronto called Hudson’s music. Triumph rehearsed there at times and rented stage gear for local shows. For years they played for free at a summer outdoor park. Later in life, I was in finance, I met several members and sat and chatted with them for hours. Of course, about music. They are great humble guys. My favourite Triumph song is The City which is a great clinic in guitar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6a6lJSCm81mrJo

Ahh, one of my favorite bands ever! Fantastic song! Also check out “Magic Power”, “Fight the Good Fight” and “Follow Your Heart”... funny story Rik Emmett told about his jumpsuits: with the band playing several nights in a row, he was looking for something he could literally wash in the sink and hang dry overnight, and he found three jumpsuits like that - remember, it was 1979 - for cheap. Amazing voice and incredible guitar player!

I absolutely love seeing people discover what I've loved for most of my life. I think I was around 5 years old the first time I heard this song. I love all types of music. I will randomly listen to country, rap or any other genre of music so I don't miss a good song. Man put this song on a bad ass system and crank it up. It will be a life altering experience I promise.

A song that really, and I mean REALLY, showcases this band is blinding light show/moon child, hard driving into slow burn, classical interlude, followed by a hard return, and fading out into perfection.

I agree April wine is amazing. I grew up in riverview fla,our school rock band was razors edge anyhow working on hotrod in the garage it was razors edge covering judas priest and after that April wine songs then scorpions and they tried triumph but the intro on lay it on the line is very difficult for a guitarist with smaller hands. Good times from 77-91 lots of great music in that era
