One time Steve Perry was backstage with Emmitt and Steve praised him for the vocal high note in Magic Power and said "how do you get that high note, anyway?". Rik's eyes bugged out and said, "You're asking ME about hitting high notes?" Great stuff. Rik is still considered to be one of the greatest guitarists and performers to ever live.

The bouncing pentatonic triplet run at the end of the solo sounds very similar to a run in the solo for "Jump in the Fire" by Metallica. If I didn't know better, I'd say Mr. Hammett ripped off Mr. Emmett but since it's just such a shred cliche', can anyone really claim ownership to it?

@@gridlock1a To you maybe. But who said 'blind?' Successful people often focus on the positive because it is excellent motivation and it's just as factual as a negative views of things. That does not mean that people are incapable of recognizing the negative. It simply isn't helpful or constructive to spend much time on it. Better to just accept the negative and look for whatever positive keeps us enthusiastic. Life is sometimes very hard. Positivity is like a life-raft for the tough times. For Emmett, I believe the value of positivity was instilled by an aunt battling with cancer.

Definitely my favorite. Awesome in Concert! The first time I saw them they hit us with the weirdest lighting I have ever seen. It was green and it flowed over the crowd like paint, it slowly engulfed the entire venue. When it finally covered our section all I could see was the color green, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. When it was over, all the way out to the car, everything had a green tint to it. 😆

Different styles, different stage shows, Triumph did have more Pop songs then Rush, but they could also Rock the hell, while Rush was more Proggy. Slightly different fan bases, but also a group of us in the middle who appreciated both. You hardly ever saw a Jock or Cheerleader type at a RUSH concert, and neery a misfit or outcast showed up at a Triumph concert. Triumph loved blowing things up on stage, RUSH not so much. Both had Incredible Lead Guitarists, and both Geddy and Rik could reach incredible high notes. The only sad thing was that they never ever did a concert together, perhaps they were at festivals the same year, but just once I would of loved to have them sell out Skydome and let 80,000 of us Rock the Evening away., Hell they could of made it a 3 Man Canadian Rock Group day and night by bringing along FM , Klaatu, The Stampeders and Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush as well.
@RaymondBCrisp
@RaymondBCrisp 3 жыл бұрын
I always thought they were just more hard rock than Rush. I don't think they really ever delved into what I would consider true 'pop' music. For that you've got to look Wham or Air Supply or Phil Collins solo or Steve Perry solo or whatnot. But I have a different definition of pop, so maybe it's just me. And they even had a few proggy songs, with Blinding Light Show being the most notable.
@toddstevens13
@toddstevens13 3 жыл бұрын
@@RaymondBCrisp I would call those bands you mentioned as Saccharine Ballad bands. So guess it is all in the degree. Power pop maybe, is how I would categorize Triumph, but indeed Triumph had some Hard Rock, Like Rock and Roll Machine, and perhaps their hardest "When The Lights Go Down."

@@toddstevens13 Fight the Good Fight, Blinding Light Show, and Hold On are pretty rockin'. I won't deny they were definitely in the 'mainstream' rock category, meaning they got a lot of air play, but Magic Power is the only poppy (poppish?) rock song by them that I can think of.
@toddstevens13
@toddstevens13 3 жыл бұрын
@@RaymondBCrisp We just have different ideas about what Pop Rock is. Hold On to me is complete pop rock, as are Never Surrender, Magic Power for sure, Somebody's Out There. We shall agree to disagree, but we both enjoyed them, as part of the incredible Canadian Music of those times.

Triumph is an amazing band. 3 guys. Incredible voice on the mic, Rik Emmett. His range is phenomenal. The guitar, bass and drums are immaculate. I'm so glad y'all liked it.

I saw Triumph live twice back in the '80s, they never get the recognition they deserve.

Saw Triumph in 1983 or so at Meadowlands Arena in NJ. It was the Thunder 7 tour I believe. It was so loud I think it damaged my ears. They've been ringing ever since. They were amazing.

These guys are from my hometown and have a music studio 10 minutes or so from my house called 'Metal Works ' near Tornto, Ontario for music students and recording artists. The drummer shows up to local Blues festivals in town and shows his face periodically then takes off.

I used to put this on my plastic record player and dance around with this in my hands!! Singing the lyrics at the top of my lungs!! I was between 10-12 years old! But it never ever gets old!! Music has always been my rock, pun intended!! Lex🥰 Love that you feel this song like many of us do 😍 Gosh, I must have played this 100 times after the first time hearing it!! Great reaction guys!! ❤
