Celia Cruz was VERY popular in Mexico and many other Latin American countries. Mexico is where it was discovered she was ill. I would also point out that there are several writers and musicians who have crossed over to each country including Tito Puente, Agustín Lara, Benny Moré, and Melón.

OMG the lyrics in this song today for me have a total different meaning “anybody that thinks that life is is always the same needs to know that’s a not true. That life’s wonderful and we have to live it. Anybody that thinks they’re are alone, they’re wrong and they need to know there’s always someone by their side (God). No need to cry. Life it’s a carnival and it’s more beautiful if you enjoy it singing. Anybody that thinks life it’s cruel need to understand that there are only bad times and all of that passes....” thank you for reminding me that there’s so much more to be grateful and thankful even when life gets rough. I enjoy so much your positivity, your beautiful smile and your appreciation of our diverse culture. We’re all brothers no matter what language, size, color, possessions or beliefs we all possess. Love your beautiful soul and thanks again! 😉

It gives me goosebumps to see you "discover" this Negra. She has been a force of nature in my life since the early 90's when a Moroccan friend gave me a cassette of her music to help my Spanish study before my first trip to Cuba. My reaction to her music back then was the same as yours, and it has not let up one ounce since. Study the lyrics to most of her songs. Celia studied in Cuba to be a school teacher, and she is fulfilling this mission through her music. Meanwhile, I have collected all her music from the late 40's until her last LP, and have a poster she sent me when I was ill which she signed and put a "Get Well" message on it. We have all the Queens. Queen of Blues, Queen of Soul, and the Queen of Salsa.

They are not Latinos in the sense of background of the word, but Africans who were brought to the locations where Latinos dominated. Just like here in the United States of America, they are Africans, but you wouldn't call them African Anglos now would you? Of course not, so they are not Afro Latinos. That doesn't exists. There are Africans who speak Spanish just like Africans who speak English.
