Love this live performance. Thanks for the reaction. You outta' react to Johnny Cash and Linda Ronstadt performing "I Never Will Marry". She was only 23 when Johnny let her appear on his weekly TV program. It's a lovely vignette.

Okay Jamel, here is another live performance of Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Hornsby, doing Raitt's hit "Thing Called Love". Gotta see this... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZnReaBueZKLiM0. Bonnie rockin' with slide guitar, and Bruce on the "squeeze box" accordion. Amazing!

This song doesn't make a whole lot a sense does it? It does when you actually hear the original version Jamel. No woman would write this. A man actually did. Listen to it again, but actually listen and you will get it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52kZKeDlr1sfaM&ab_channel=PhivePhivoSteve

@@johnboehmer6683 I agree! Another highly emotional song is 'Stay' by Sugarland. The vocal and video performance that Jennifer Nettles gave was incredibly beautiful, was incredibly excruciating for her. She was divorcing her cheating husband at the time. She had written the song and was in production with it for her next album when she found out her husband was cheating on her. That's why the video is so emotional for her. Definitely a must-see on this channel! @jamelakajamal gave a great reaction!

From Wiki: For Raitt, the song was notoriously difficult to sing, due to its required vocal range, difficult phrasing and breathing, and the emotional content involved. At the televised Grammy Awards of 1992 Raitt performed it in an even more austere setting than on record, with just her and Hornsby highlighted. As she negotiated the final vocal line, she let out a big audible and visible sigh of relief that she had successfully gotten through it. Her live performance of the song was released on the 1994 album Grammy's Greatest Moments Volume III. Raitt has continued to sing the song in all her concert tours: I mean, 'I Can't Make You Love Me' is no picnic. I love that song, so does the audience. So it's almost a sacred moment when you share that, that depth of pain with your audience. Because they get really quiet, and I have to summon ... some other place in order to honor that space. - Raitt, 2002 NPR interview

Back In the 90s, Bonnie Raitt is the one who reintroduced blues into pop music. After hearing her album, I went down the rabbit hole all the way down to Muddy Waters and all the OGs that created what we call now Delta Blues.

It's great when an artist sets you on that journey and you discover the music you didn't even know you needed in your life. Mine started back in the 60s when The Rolling Stones introduced 13 year old me to the Blues with their earliest recordings in the same year I saw Sonny Boy Williamson on a 12" black and white TV. Then Billie Holiday did the same to 18 year old me and started me down the road to Jazz. A lifetime of Blues and Jazz later and then it happened again just a few years ago when I discovered Pentatonix and through them, a capella.

I don't think it's possible to quantify just how much I adore Bonnie Raitt. Her music has touched my soul, made me get up and dance, and held my hand through some tough times. We are so lucky to have had her music all these years. Just as a quick aside, her really early music is quite different than her later music. I would love for you to hear her song "Love Me Like A Man" from 1972, or the similarly-themed "Finest Lovin' Man" from 1971. They are more bluesy, and just sublime.

It's about time. Recency bias has skewed listening and perception toward other versions of this song and none of them hold a lick to Bonnie's. This is a woman that has clearly been through something, and it shows here. Her version is not about over singing, but about real adult emotions. The production here kills any other version and Hornsby's piano is the icing on this bittersweet, heartbreaking cake. Glad you finally found this.

@@shells500tutubo I'm a big Nancy Wilson fan, and an even bigger Dinah Washington fan, who was one of her vocal mentors. Although I agree Nancy's version is very good indeed Bonnie's, to me anyway, just has a bit more a plaintiveness, a bit more resignation and desperateness in her version. Maybe that's just me.

Bonnie Raitt's version lS the best, but I would not say no one else can touch it. The song itself is so much bigger than any performer that does it that anyone with a good voice and solid production can at least be in the same room with Bonnie's.

I love Bonnie. ❤. I have been seeing live shows since the early 70's .my sister took to to a 3 dog night concert at 13. I have seen so many in my 64 yrs now. But being from Memphis I love the blues, southern delta blues. I have seen Bonnie at least 10 to 15 times live. Greg Allman and AB about 10+. Saw her twice in Denver once at Red Rocks. No body better than Bonnie. She is a straight up blues Queen. Jamel, go to 2012 Kennedy Honors Awards show. Same one with Led Zepp and Heart. They honored Buddy Guy also on that show. Bonnie , Jimmy Vaughn ( Stevie Ray's Big brother) Beth Heart, etc. Great show. Watch both LZ & Buddy Guys entire segments, well worth the time. Shows the other side of Bonnie. Enjoy... Love 💘 ya. Find Bonnie and Alison Krauss on Bonnie's song "You" Perfect Song. On UT.

This is one of those times and singers that know when you dont over sing a song. You let the song convey the message it's supposed to and you keep it all on check. Her voice is pure silk.

I'm so excited to see you react to a performance by Bruce Hornsby. Bruce is a native of Williamsburg, Virginia, and my cousin married a studio musician who's good friends with him. When my second cousin was born, they snapped a picture of Bruce of holding him. That picture is still hanging in my aunt's home to this day. As I've said about another native Virginian(Roy Clark), I feel blessed to have met Bruce in person, and he's super humble and genuine. There's a lot of good music and great musicians here in the Commonwealth, and I really encourage you to check out some more of them. You won't be disappointed. The combination of Bruce and Bonnie is just heavenly, and you did a great review.
