Hi there! This is WAAAY off-topic from the joviality of the Talking Heads, but check out Billy Joel's song about Viet Nam. Gives me goosebumps EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I've never had enough courage to play it live. It's pretty heavy. And brilliant. It's called "Goodnight Saigon." This is a very high-quality link. I highly recommend the whole Stop Making Sense film (not necessarily for a reaction, but just to watch it). It is fantastic start to finish, the Talking Heads (and singer David Byrne) were never more at the top of their game, and it was directed by Jonathan Demme, of all people, who directed Silence of the Lambs. And Tina Weymouth is one of the all time great bassists, certainly of the 1980s.

I must reiterate the ONLY way to experience this film is from beginning to end, as the introduction of the instruments are layered one at a time for each subsequent song. David enters a bare stage with just one microphone stand waiting for him and his acoustic guitar. He presents a small BoomBox and presses "Play" on the cassette tape, which lays down the percussive track for "Psycho Killer". Slowly, one by one, the rest of the Band joins him, while stagehands dressed in black methodically assemble the rest of the equipment and instruments. The Drum kit is rolled out on platform, and eventually, the entire ensemble is present to deliver an unforgettable show that now belongs to the ages! Yes, it is best to view this Film in its proper sequence to appreciate the genius of it in it's entirety!✌🍁✌

My wife and I saw this in a movie theater near University of Pittsburgh around 1984. EVERYONE in the theater on their feet dancing; I had never seen anything like it FOR A CONCERT MOVIE!!! Did the funk meter surprise you? That black guitarist is Alex Weir from the Brothers Johnson (Get the Funk Out Ma Face) and the cat on keys is Bernie Worrell from Parliament Funkadelic. Tina's baseline is absolutely amazing - in fact there are just no weak links in this band. BTW, if you watch the entire movie, you don't get a glimpse of the audience until near the very end - this was deliberate. They wanted the viewers to make up their own mind on the music's impact. When they finally show the crowd dancing and going nuts it is a satisfying pay-off. So glad you enjoyed this!!!!!

You should watch Stop Making Sense from start till end. Worth your 1,5 hours.

I love watching your reactions - gives me a tiny hit of that "first time" feeling that I experienced decades ago. Thanks for all of these!

Talking Heads broke up a long time ago, but "David Byrne’s American Utopia” -- a concert filmed by Spike Lee debuts on HBO this Saturday night. "Lee’s energetic direction combined with Byrne’s exuberant staging of Talking Heads classics and other songs makes for a concert film that stands on par with Jonathan Demme’s Talking Heads classic 'Stop Making Sense.'" (AP) "Stop Making Sense" is the 1984 documentary movie this clip comes from.

So looking forward to this. Spike and Byrne will probably be amazing.

I got to see Talking Heads on the tour just before this was filmed. Hands down the best concert I've seen. I remember at one point looking at the crowd (we lucked into 12th row seats) and 5,000 people were jumping up and down in time to whatever song they were playing. "Life During Wartime" from "Stop Making Sense" is another one that will blow your mind a bit. Thanks for the joy!

Jamel, I can't stand we not hanging' out. When I was much younger. listening and vibin' big -time to music in Toronto, tuning into a Buffalo, NY, radio station, listening to hip hop when it first began and then the 80's and 90's music....man - you remind me so much of my best friends. God blesss you, and keep on keeping' on.

STop Making Sense is hands down the greatest concert movie ever filmed, with The Last Waltz maybe being the only exception and thats more like a party as opposed to a carefully choreographed production. Watch this movie immediately lol!!
@ammaleslie5092 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. I love the Last Waltz and it was my favorite concert movie for many years before Stop Making Sense was released... now I'm not sure which is #1

Its beyond words,it has everything, your reaction sums it up.

Yes David Byrne calls it the Big Suit. Sadly, Talking Heads split up with a lot of animosity in the early 90s, and have only performed together one time since then, for the Rock N Roll HOF induction

Jamal, there is a video on KZbin of The Talking Heads Live in Rome back in 1980. You need to take the time and enjoy that one. It's soooooo worth it.

If you ever start doing movies you should check out “True Stories”. Fun little look at life in a small Texas town starring the lead singer, David Byrne.

You have to watch the entire "Stop Making Sense" concert movie and David Byrne's movie "True Stories." Do reactions! You'll love them, totally!

I saw this show back in '83. After seeing over 400 concerts since then, it remains one of the two or three best shows I've witnessed.

Sadly, they are not still going. David Byrne has flat-out refused to do any kind of reunion, to the point where I was ASTOUNDED to learn he consented to perform with them when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That was in '02. As for the big suit, I'm pretty sure that's just extra performance art. XD Other Stop Making Sense essentials: "Life During Wartime" and "Psycho Killer." (Yes, again, it has a completely different flavor to the album/weird demo cuts.) Tina Weymouth is a goddess among bass players and I will hear no argument.
