Ozomatli as an LA gang that picked up instruments instead of weapons to spread good vibes instead of chaos. I'm pretty sure this is the first album. At least a few of them are massive Dodgers fans. Nothing like a band doing a radio interview and the whole thing was about baseball. (I think when the team changed owners not long ago.)

Check out Concrete Schoolyard by Jurassic 5. That’s a jam
@Captainpigraven3 жыл бұрын
@@jamelakajamal This song came out in ‘98 or ‘99. They toured a bit with Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, and those shows were great. This was a fun time musically. While pop was being saturated with the revival of boy and girl singing/dancing groups, female carbon copies, and the rise of Eminem, the “jam” scene was also experiencing some real growth and more inclusion. In addition to bands like Phish, groups like the String Cheese Incident, Ozomatli, Soulive, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood (MMW) would grow in popularity. While technically not considered “jam” bands, even groups and artists like Ben Harper, Jurassic 5, Guster, G.Love and Special Sauce, and Jack Johnson started picking up more steam and routinely could be found at jam band-type tours and festivals. This carried into the early 2000s, as groups like Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Galactic, Karl Denson and His Tiny Universe, and many more joined the fray. It was a phenomenal scene, both musically and from a culture standpoint. Even groups like Dave Matthews Band, who achieved much more popular success, had their place in this scene. Every band or musical artist I’ve named here was great, and most definitely worth checking out. You seem to appreciate the Dead and Phish, so my guess is you’ll enjoy at least some of these other bands, as they were the culmination of the scene that the two aforementioned greats helped build over previous decades.

I’m so happy to be reminded of this song! Thank you for veering off the top hits path. Ozomatli has a great blend of rap, funk and Latin, and the instruments are expertly played. Another rap group that played live instruments from the late 90s/early 2000s was Crown City Rockers. I think they were from San Francisco. You would like their song “Fate.” It is so smooth and soulful.

No way! This is the second time, today, I was reminded of Chali 2na. He was in Jurassic 5. I've seen him live. Unreal flow, and a voice so low. Another You Tuber, I follow, made a Jurassic 5 mashup, and people were asking about who's voice it was. I re-listened to a couple of his great co-labs...Now This? Just, WOW!
