Back in the 80s I was in the Army and four of us would go to the Rec Center, which isn't a place that had a basketball court and a weight lifting area, to my surprise it was a music center with about 6 or 7 sound proof rooms along with any musical instrument you could possibly think at our will!! I was, of course, shocked to see. We all went there to shoot some hoops, instead I asked my buddies if any of them could play, they all did! So, for the unbelievable price of $1.00 an hour we picked out Marshall amps, Fender Strats or Gibson Les Paul guitars and a bass. Inside each room was a drum kit. And these drum kits were incredible! I'm talking about 15 to 20 piece drum kits and top notch cymbals! It was nuts! Anyways...I played drums and discovering nobody could sing, I took it among myself to sing. We went on to playing all around Germany at the Armed Forces bases playing in numerous competitions. It was awesome! And yes, it's not easy for everyone who played drums to sing lead at the same time.

The reason Rare Earth got a hold of "Get Ready" is because they were signed to Motown by Berry Gordy. In the early 70's, Gordy was looking to branch out and include white groups and singers among the Motown stable. Rare Earth was the most successful and thus the most famous of those groups. Sitting here right now I can't actually remember any of the other white Motown bands but I remember there were a few.

Get Ready and (I Know) I'm Losing You were both covers of Temptation's songs but Rare Earth's versions were way more successful. Rare Earth was a phenomenal band in the studio and Live and as far as I know still holds the distinction of being the only all-white band signed by MOTOWN Records. They could do fusions of rock, R&B, jazz, had an unmatched stage presence with top musicianship, great vocals and positively dripped funk from every pore. They were a staple for parties when i was in high school back in medieval times 😁(1970-71).

Peter Rivera is the most underrated singer and Drummer in the History of music, not to mention one of the coolest cats in late 70's in age now, as well as the decade of the 70's. He does not get his due respect from the recording industry bc he fought against their proprietary rights to take 90% of the proceeds from record sales and commissions which made him a "black sheep" to them.
