My eyes tear up just thinking of the lyrics to that song. I knew it was their swan song, their final message to their audience, the very first time I heard it (which would have been the day the Clockwork Angels album went on sale). Just about the whole album. When I heard "I wish that I could live it all again" on Headlong Flight, followed by Wish Them Well, I started thinking "this is a 'goodbye' album". And then The Garden.... I hoped for more but I figured that was the end. I saw them in San Antonio for the Clockwork Angels tour and then had to work the last time they played in Austin. I don't think there will be another band like them in my lifetime.

They were also funny. Before each show, each tour, they would sometimes make a weird funny video to show the audience. On their 40th anniversary tour (the Time Machine tour where they started with their newest songs and went backwards in time to the end of the show), they had a funny video of them (as funny characters) in an isolated bar watching a young polka band playing called RASH (same logo, but A insead of a U). I had to get a RASH shirt after that. People at other concerts I go to still love the RASH shirt.

You're so right about them making fun of themselves, and the crowd loved it.🤩 I was at the 40th anniversary concert at The Forum in L.A. I just couldn't get over how THREE people could FILL the arena with that WONDERFUL music. I walked away saying, "That guy is THE BEST drummer on the planet." There could not have been anyone better!!! Neil Peart's music will live on with us. SO GLAD I got to see them in person. Mind blown!!❤❤❤

This was the first Rush album I ever heard way back in around 1982. To me it's one of their most timeless efforts and when you consider it's just three 21 year old Canadian kids making this music it's just mind boggling. Every track is incredible, and the musicianship is beyond belief.

When I got the news of Neil's passing I was trying to think of a lyric he wrote that applied to how I felt. After a while, a line from "Nobody's Hero" (another song worth reacting to!) came to mind: "When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart..." Rush wasn't a band that a lot of people got, but they were my heads house band! Neil will be greatly missed but his legacy lives on in those of us that were inspired by his words and playing. RIP Professor!

Mike Comstock I been watching so many of these reaction videos featuring Rush and I am shocked and delighted at number of young black people grooving on them. I got into Rush in early 80s. It was impossible to find too many people who were into them much less fellow black folks LOL! Only other black person I know that liked Rush was former Montreal Expo first baseman, Warren Cromartie who became good friends with Geddy Lee and was paid homage on back cover of Signals album. Back then Rush were HATED by music press and had little or know exposure. I’m happy to see almost 40 years later my fellow Canadians finally getting props they deserve.

One thing that I loved about seeing them live, was the generations present. Had floor seats to R40, the guy next to me was my age (50s), he had his 25 year old son and 7 year old grandson with him. You see folks that grew up with them and young people that only know they newest work.

Oh my!! How great to see this video. Just looked up the dates.... the album was released in February '75, so when they recorded it, Geddy and Alex would've been 21 or 22, and Neil a year older. This was Neil’s first “hit” song; he wasn’t in the band when “Working Man” and the first album was made; although he made them his own live. They played like 125 shows June-Dec 1974 while they wrote this song and the rest of the Fly By Night album. They recorded the album in 5 days, then it was back on the road for a Jan. 15th show in Winnipeg and another 250 shows in 1975. Incredible.

Bruh, I love your reactions!! Rush I think, so many people miss the technical aspect of their music. Go back in almost all their songs, and pay attention to the tempo changes and transitions. Rush retired a couple years ago, due to Neal and Alex getting arthritis and they didn't think they would be able to continue delivering such perfection in their live shows.

That was the public story, but I really think that was just the band trying to keep Neil's privacy intact. He was diagnosed right around then, and prior to the diagnosis was likely already experiencing weakness and other symptoms. Sad end to such a bringer of joy.

Not to dis Geddy, but he's hardly underrated. He's at or near the top of every rock bass list I've ever looked at. Easily one of the most influential bass players of rock music ever. I've never, ever heard anyone say otherwise. And he gets all that praise just for his bass playing. Add on top of that the singing, the keyboards, the pedals (all at the same time) and then he's at another level altogether. Probably one of the most talented rock musicians ever. Honestly, the only one in Rush I think is underrated or overlooked is Alex. But there's not a serious guitar player that I know who doesn't praise Alex. He just doesn't have the same level of recognition with the masses that Neil or Geddy have.

The memory of hearing this song for the first time is strong to this day. 1975, late summer, just shy of 17 and about to begin my Sr year of HS. I was listening to FM radio out of Cleveland one day, and heard the announcement of the airing of the new Rush album (Fly By Night) later that night, but first, a spin of the title track at the top of the hour (in 15 minutes). All I had been doing that day is playing my bass guitar, putting off chores. My mom had enough of my procrastination, and sent me outside to clean her car. So that I didn't miss hearing the new Rush song, I drove her car onto the front lawn, then placed my bedroom speakers on the open window sill so I could hear the radio while working.

We'd smoke a wee bit too much on occasions (imagine that) and sing " Ride My Bike " throwing in any lyrics could think of on the fly.... those were simpler times for simpler minds but we'd laugh our asses off. Rush was not a popular band back in the late 70s and 80s and finding others who listened to them was reason enough to be friends because they understood what so many others failed to grasp,they are a once in a lifetime band. I was really looking forward to seeing them after they got bored in a few years... maybe Neil's kid would fill in .... until then boy's...

Wow Scottie you described exactly what it was like to be a Rush fan in late 70s early 80s , when you found someone else who were into them it was an instant kinship.

I recall in 81 or 82,goin to the Spectrum in Philly to see them. My bud and I sporting faded Levi jackets with freshly painted Rush album covers on the back... Fly by Night on mine and 2112 on his... we were 15 or so,never told our parents. We left Long Island on our journey and had a fantastic time jumping train to train and partying. There were hundreds of us by the time we got there and Philly rocked hard for 3 hours that night... We left with 30.00 and made it home okay....

Just waiting to hear Rush on the radio was torture. Thinking, what's wrong with these people. Do they not know how great they are. I was 18, on a job site in 83 when I first heard a Rush song on the radio in N.Y. it was this song, no longer would they be the best unknown band around.

Been listening to a lot of Rush since hearing the news last week. Got into some pretty deep cuts. You should check out By-Tor and the Snow Dog. Has some great musicality and Neil plays some crazy drum fills . And of course, the lyrics and story are brilliant. Keep up the great reviews. Loving seeing a new Rush fan emerge.

Look at those crazy canadian kids!! What amazes me about Rush (among many other things) is how different each decade of music was, yet every decade was amazing. They never had an average album. Ever. I miss Neil and Rush.
