You could spend weeks delving into Neil his voice is smooth a hell and in the 70's he was everywhere. You must do his original version of Red Red Wine, Cracklin Rosie, I am I said and for me a pure seminal moment in rock music when he took to the stage with The Band on the Last Waltz concert to sing Dry your Eyes. Seminal because everyone thought of him as easy listening and middle of the road but he proved that he could sit with the best and even steal the show.

It's funny that most of us landed up listing to Neil Diamond because he played loud and proud in our parents homes. For me I was a little kid with a rather eclectic taste in music that had an uncle who insisted someday I would need this. Turns out all these years later i'm sitting here playing all of those albums and reel to reel tapes. I now understand what I didn't know then. Some music touches your heart and some music reaches into your soul, this does both. Thanks Jamel, this is really a fun ride.

Dude ... I've seen Neil 22 times in concert. Never missed a show since 1980. The last one was July 26, 2017 in Seattle, WA. He was on his 50th Anniversary World Tour. 6 months later the world heard the news that he had to retire from touring due to Parkinson's Disease just 3 days before his 78th birthday in 2018. The man is a class act. Neil's career and song catalog spans 50+ years. The tunes were catchy. His music from the 60's, 70's and 80's are good decades to choose from .. Holy Holly .. Brother loves travelin salvation show .. cherry cherry .. crunchy granola suite .. i am i said .. solitary man .. just to name a few. React to these from his "Hot August Night" LIVE album 1972. You won't be disappointed.

I used to tell my husband that if I came home from work and Neil Diamond was playing that it was time for ‘sitting by the fire’ time. Neil’s deep voice hits me viscerally. It is unfortunate that the music people looked at Neil as just a light weight pop singer. He was criticized for incorporating instruments other than guitar and drums. Another critics was that he was too popular. Is it an American thing to tear down success? He has been music in my life since high school; I’m 68 now.

Great Neil Diamond story. (He went to the same HS as my parents!) On 7/4/78 he played in Toronto. My then fiancee was a huge fan, me not so much. Back then we used flash bulbs. He stopped playing in the middle of a song & asked the crowd with cameras to make their way down to the front of the stage. Then, explaining the flash hurts his eyes, he said on the count of 3 everyone take your pix, then no more. At 3, he started posing, smiling, the place just lit up! Everyone returned to their seats & not a single flash went off the rest of the show. What an experience! While not a fan, this song is the best one IMO. Keep my music flowing, Brother Jamel!!

The Reverend Blue Jeans as I like to call it. And the Reverend in question was an inspirational English teacher, the Reverend Frank Higgins who ride to school on a a huge motorbike wearing jeans and leathers. He would then change into a pin stripe suit and give inspirational classes worthy of the Dead Poets Society. This song came out around that time in 1979 and always reminds me of him. Neil Diamond was very uncool then but I didn't care, I loved the song and Neil's gravelly voice and I've been a a fan ever since. The music was actually written by Neil's lead guitarist Richard Bennett with lyrics later added by Neil. Written in a simpler time when jeans were only available in one colour, the song purveys a universal message of what you actually need in life. It also features one of the finest and underrated guitar intros of any popular song.
