OMG! Never meant my comment to push you over the edge. Seriously though, I haven't laughed so hard since the first time I saw the lion tamer bit from Monty Python. You made my day with this informative and very entertaining video. You've documented another facet of the great engineering that went into these Carter/Edelbrock designs. Something we should expect to be the rule, and likely exists in most carbs, but there are a few designs still roaming the streets out there, that will bite if someone assumes there is no importance to the carb makers' specs. And I by no means, wish to imply that someone is you. If I never make a comment on one of your vids again, please know that I must hereafter consider you a friend for the gift you gave me in this one. May your viewers continue to be blessed by your content!

Not over the edge, but made me think about the best way to approach it. My initial response wasn’t useful and if there’s one thing I’ve always maintained on this channel is to provide good, useful information. So after thinking about it, that was the best way I could think to illustrate the situation. I knew that condition wouldn’t exist, but that’s not a good enough reply. Showing that it wouldn’t work, well that made for a video that was far more entertaining than I planned. 😆 Thanks for making me think through this one and find a way to show it. Cheers!

Great video. The first thing I thought of when I heard the concern of dropping the float too low was that the float would hit the bottom of the chamber first anyway, so there’s no worry of binding the needle. Plus, if the clip is on the needle that keeps it under the base of the float then I’d think it’d be even more unlikely that the needle would bind. But great video.

Miss that event. I was at that one and Spokane every year for almost 10 years. That’s a gem of a show. I’ve been to almost all the Good Guys events and the Puyallup one will always be one of my favorites.

I knew it would be ridiculous. But sometimes that’s the length you have to go to so the information will be believed.

I’m confused on the float drop spec and where you measure the reference points. I get that you orientate the carburetor right side up and let the float drop and hang, but do you measure form the bowl gasket surface to the lowest point on the float or some other point?

Can a solid float absorb gas over time, mine are 30 years old they don't seem so buoyant anymore, great video well done big help, regards from London UK

Can you make a video about crankcase pressure it’s a topic I don’t see many videos about and honestly I really don’t understand why’s it good or why’s it bad?

Made one with the topic on evacuating it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKLEiaGZqayJppY

When it’s not properly evacuated, the pressure builds up and it has to go someplace. Gaskets are the path of least resistance. Valve cover, oil pan. Leaks develop. Not fun!

I see a way that it could happen.if the float drop is too much.what if when you turn the top over to put it on.the float drops to where the needle wedges then you shove it down and put the screws in.its a stupid mistake, but possible.anyway, very entertaining video.i love the way you customized the float..
@pablojanski.2559
@pablojanski.2559 2 жыл бұрын
Under operation the float doesn;t move that much at all.. as fuel is being used by the engine the float only drops enough for the needle to open a little and maintain bowl level. the float drop tang is really only there to keep the needle in it's bore when you remove the top plate. If fuel level ever gets low enough for the float to even touch the floor, the engine will go very lean before that point and it's most likely because the fuel pump failed first.
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 2 жыл бұрын
You’d be very surprised at how much it actually moves. But I’m not making a window in the float bowl to show just how much the fuel level drops.
@pablojanski.2559
@pablojanski.2559 2 жыл бұрын
@@MuscleCarSolutions Actually, No I wouldn;t be surprised.. I've done similar tests with other designs on flow bench, wet flow. If the float level drops too far under a WOT senario ( such as 1/4 pass, then the volume delivered is being restricted. Larger needles will help, but fuel volume delivery is key. If float drops too far you lose head pressure in the main well and booster draw diminishes causing lean creep. Obviously, the eddy's won;t be put on big power motors, But I have tuned then to run well on 5-600 hp street engines. It takes work though.

MABY IF SOMEONE PUT THE FLOATS IN UPSIDE DOWN?
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 2 жыл бұрын
It would be extremely awkward as there’s nothing to hold the floats in it’s operating position when the drop tab is flipped the wrong way. I’d assume it would be pretty evident that there’s a problem to someone who put them in upside down.
