Nice!!! we had one like this, just with a wide cargo platform, and we used to transport all provisions plus firewood through the snowy slopes of the Patagonian Andes. I think it was a 1947 model almost unmodified from the army issue, except for the paint (red+black). It did its job very good, except for fuel consumption... The winch was used quite a lot, to move the boats, heavy logs, and the truck itself when needed (for snow plowing we had a Unimog, besides a Land Rover Series 2A for moving around). We also rented a Dodge Carryall model 1959 to transport the customers of our fishing lodge. I was just a kid so I do not remember technical details, but the wagon used to be from the Border Control Police, and operated in the high desert plateau of the Atacama Desert before moving to Patagonia as a civilian car. It still had the official greenish-khaki color, just without the markings of the service unit. We also towed a big trailer for the wooden fishing boats (4, 6 to 8) with it. As a kid I loved these cars, I thought I was just back from WW2 whenever I traveled in them... (I even built a tiny 1:72 model of the WW2 truck, the one with the howitzer) The new RAM is just a meek consolation compared to these living monuments! But today I would rather go for Unimog, Pinzgauer or Volvo (army surplus), who are more than capable for such hard performances! (and I would love to have my old Landie back, knowing that the Defender is just overpriced junk, and even convinced that Toyota always built the far better 4x4 anyway) greetings from wild, wet, windy and wonderful Western Patagonia

I drove a 1952 Dodge M37 for about 10 years. My every day ride. It was an ambulance that I put the troop carrier body on, took out the flathead engine and installed a Chevy straight six. Ditched the 900/16 non directional tires for highway tires. Lived in Palmer Alaska and drove it every M-F to Anchorage for work. 100 miles round trip. Drove it to Connecticut from Alaska. Took 30 days as I broke down every other day!!!. Did all my own work. Wish I still had it but bad knees forced me to go to automatic transmission only. Hey Jay, wish I had a dollar for every time you cross the line while you are driving!!..lol. Love your shows Mr. Leno. Wish I had the money to do a few of the builds that you do, that would be a lot of fun. I bought my M37 from Gary's Trucks in Anchorage in 1981. Gary's is still open on Dowling Road in Anchorage. I also used my truck to cut firewood for a living. Had it off road hundreds of times cutting my way into the woods. Ahh, to be young again👍

I'm sure he is a nice guy, but my Gosh man, not everything is funny, Mr. Joker....did someone tell him to laugh at everything, everything you say and everything Jay says... annoying, like he is a drinking game. Anyway very nice, Dodge is America's longest lasting truck. If you take care of it absolutely. I got my Dad's '78 Dodge Ramcharger, original engine LA 318, original Trans, still runs and drives, has 56k miles on the clock and that was when the odometer died 25 years ago, so it's probably more in the neighborhood of 500k miles. I have a '96 reg cab 1500 Ram 360 magnum, still runs, about 300k miles on it. A buddy of mine bought a Ford F-150 and he doesn't get to drive it much because it's usually in the shop, but yeah lol. Never bought a Ford but everyone I know who has, has had nothing but problems from them. Ford might be number 1 selling, (I wonder if true if you count GM and Chevy as one) but definitely not a lasting vehicle company. I'm just sorry Dodge is going all electric, but at least they are making nosy EVs hopefully people stop being a Karen and complain about the noise and realize they are not trying to make EV V8's they are making loud EVs for an otherwise quiet EV future. Like I said I just hope people stop being Karen's and understand that concept. Thanks for reading, Beautiful Truck❤

Ive really watched nearly all of Jays videos and I absolutely love his channel, and despite my more natural lenience toward viewing the more prolific, high performance, expensive exotics/show/muscle cars and the likes, this particular video is certainly close to being my favorite. You can really see the great interaction between Winslow and Jay, its cool to see a couple people who are essentially strangers suddenly connect on so many levels through this truck. Even better, I really love hearing Winslow explain his philosophies behind his machines and his company, and even more the laughter and enjoyment he clearly exihibits throughout the video, really illustrates his love for engineering/trucks and appreciation he has in doing this blog with Jay.

My Dad and his buddy had a trucking company in the 30s with one Diamond T single axle tractor. After Pearl Harbor Dad became a USMC motor/mechanic - infantry marine. When he was discharged in 1946, he bought 2 crated/Cosmolined Dodge Power Wagons (DOD surplus) and had them shipped to Milwaukee where he and another mechanic uncrated/assembled/degreased the single axle Dodges. His new company put all 3 of his kids through coillege and retired Mom and Dad quite comfortably. One of those Dodges was still hauling pulp logs when I started college in 1966. Some truck!

Everyone commenting how expensive this truck is?? Yup it is coz that winslow guy worked hard in it, built it with so complicated but powerful, strong vehicle, good looks.. main thing is 6x6 vehicle is only made by mercedes and its very expensive. So here we are getting a 6x6 trolling tank ready to rock anywhere. This vehicle is symbol of monstrosity, country side people will be happy with this truck.

Ckryse S nailed it. I mean the merc 6x6 was originally meant for the Australian army. Then it got cancelled and became a poser wagon. This power wagon. Half the price and I would have it any day over the merc.
@dylanmccallister1888
@dylanmccallister1888 6 жыл бұрын
Dodge made 6x6 power wagons this is not a one off, I drove by one in a field today. They were the work horses of the US war machine in the 40s, 50, and 60s. So there were thousands made, this is way too expensive. It costs about 10k to get something this big down to metal for paint using sand blasting, the 6x6 already exists but you need to make a lift kit and gear it for the Cummins and new tranny that together can be another 15k. Now those tires are probably over 1000 a tire. That is at least 6k. Throw another 10 or so for fabrication including man hours. This was a rip off, haha

George Glass there’s another solution if you want a 6x6 and is a Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series. No that expensive as a Merc, not that monstrous as the power wagon and yet pretty capable. That said there is no doubt this build have twice the cool factor of any other similar one.

Got to love his choice of engine, that 3.9 diesel can pull like a locomotive. The 6x6 can crawl through some serious slop. Several years ago I could have bought 2 smaller duece and a halfs that to my surprise had Chrysler straight 8s gassers in them , I had never seen one before , and I've worked on a lot of old equipment and farm tractors . Inherited an Insley track crane w/one in it , and you think I could track one of those down for engine parts , yah right .

@@jamierodg1 me as well. I had so much fun in in them. About a year before we started getting those née 5 ton with that CTI system, I went to San Jose and picked a fully rebuilt restored deuce. I shredded the hydronic governor and had an absolute blast with it. Those 5 ton just weren’t the same.

I just watched your Apocalypse 6 x 6 which I just happen to love but like I said I am 69 years old retired and this is my style I love this truck so much it’s a thing of beauty a four-cylinder long stroke diesel it doesn’t wanna stop running and six big wheels on the ground and I used to call myself a four wheeler but I’ve always wanted a 6 X 6 but everyone I looked at was more Worn out than me. In the army we called them deuce and a half, As I’m sure you well know. Thank you Sir, once again, I always love your stuff.

One cousin of my father just present me few moments ago this truck that my granfather had in his life. It's incredible these kind of very old classic trucks were restored this time. Love old cars and trucks, too cause they are part of our old family's memory. Meanwhile in my country, (Ecuador) this trucks were in a waste trash, in the United States of America there are people that are converting old and damaged cars into new ones. They are giving a new opportunity to use antique vehicles into work.

+xynudu The Soviet Union got well over 100,000 Studebaker US6 6x6 trucks via Lend-Lease in WWII. The trucks to my knowledge were well liked by the Soviet troops and also quite famously the Soviets mounted Katyusha rocket launchers on them. Additionally the ZIS-5 and ZIS-6 two of the most common WWII-era cargo trucks in use by the Soviets (and their respective variants) were copies of Autocar trucks (Autocar being a US company). Some other popular trucks in the Soviet were based off of the Ford Model AA truck platform, almost 1 million of these were produced under license from GAZ and UAZ.

Jay Leno, you’ll probably never read this, but my FIRST TRUCK EVER was a 1971 dodge powerwagon. It was a 3/4 ton STEP-SIDE short bEd 4x4. The bed was diamond plate steel. 4.10 gears, 318 v8, and when I bought it there was only 26,000 miles on the clock. It was my local jurisdictions old firehouse truck originally, that ended up in a local farmers barn until I bought it at 16 years old with money I had saved from bailing hay. I ended up in a financial crunch in my mid 20s and had to sell it, and have regretted it ever since. I put a bunch of blood sweat and tears into that truck and miss it dearly. NEVER sell a powerwagon!!!!

@Eric Van Yep have to figure original vehicle cost parts costs how long it takes to build. 10 employees is 10 paychecks a week. And yeah unless you're a government entity you are in it for a profit. I bet his profit is between 50 and 100k depending on the build.

That's probably your GVWR. Your truck's curb weight is probably around 6,400 lbs depending on if it's a duallie or 4x4...max curb weight for that vehicle is about 7,200. GVWR is what shows on the door jamb tag, that's the total of the vehicle's weight plus the maximum load it was designed to carry.
@nationalcitysycho
@nationalcitysycho 6 жыл бұрын
L TR NOPE....MY TRUCK WEIGHT THE SAME 7900 LBS...ITS A 4X4 MEGA CAB 1500...BUT THE MEGA CABS WERE 2500 CHASSIS..WELL IT WAS ACTUALLY 7700 LBS ON A WEIGHT SCALE THE CUMMINS WEIGHTS MORE THEN A HEMI ENGINE ABOUT 250 LBS MORE IF ITS A CUMMINS MEGA CAB 4X4. SO YOU RITE BUT RIGHT NEXT TO THE GVWR IS THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK.
