I have this in my airplane (Cessna 172), part of safety requirements, safe to be used in flight as well as on ground, always there, maintenance free, and doesn't affect windshield if used. Well done designing this.

I also keep one in my Mooney aircraft. Lightweight and way more effective than halon.
@danh6720 Жыл бұрын
It might not affect the windshield, and it says it's non-corrosive, but it's worth being aware that Part 139 airports and fueling agents are required to have BC fire extinguishers because ABC fire extinguishers have historically been corrosive on aluminum. Maybe this isn't, the FAA is certainly slow to change rules, but I'd hate for you to put out a hangar fire or something like that and then cause problems with the aircraft.

I got really excited after seeing a couple of "this isn't an ad" videos about these extinguishers. But then I saw some real tests with fires and they failed terribly. Just a warning, watch those other videos first - showing how these actually perform against fires.

A bread truck converted to a moving van was moving a families possessions down the interstate. It caught fire in the engine compartment. The driver stopped , but was so spooked that he jumped out of the drivers side window. I had an extinguisher, I stopped along with a truck driver. That's when we learned a standard small extinguisher is useless. Two of us alternating couldn't suffocate the fire. Six to nine seconds of product is a joke. Good idea and I would be curious to see how this works outside with high wind. A standard 5# FE with 195 PSI would be superior probably in that scenario. Not to mention you have more stand off with a stored pressure FE. Would like to pick one of these up and test them.

The only thing that would have sold me on this product harder would have been if you would have put out a real fire so I could see how fast the suppression is, and also maybe dig a little bit deeper into the science behind it. Nevertheless, I am going to order at least one for every vehicle, and maybe extra to give as Christmas gifts this year too! Fantastic!

I've watched other videos of the element in action and its performance in even mildly breezy conditions is limited unless you happen to be directly upwind of the fire. I wish it had more "push" to it, more like a traditional extinguisher.
@c.varela2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a specialist, but I do believe it would work properly in an engine bay, because even with a regular fire extinguisher we should open just a little bit of the hood and then insert the extinguishing element in to it (cause it also means less oxygen).
@ToddKing2 жыл бұрын
@@c.varela Yes, you don't want a big whuump of flames in your face if you open the hood. A couple years ago I had a electrical fire on the engine wiring harness on a motorcycle I was riding. By the time I got off the bike it was flaming pretty good. If I had an Element and been on the downwind side I might of had a hard time putting it out. I can see were they have there place though.

A guy in my marina had a fire in his engine room that did significant damage to his boat. A high pressure fuel line developed a pin hole leak and sprayed diesel fuel directly onto the hot exhaust risers as he was working on the engine. The chemical fire extinguishers were useless and the only thing that stopped the fire was manually triggering the automatic Halon system. I keep a box of these in my engine room now.
@jirace2 жыл бұрын
I bought two of these: one for the car and one for the kitchen. Disadvantages seem to be that it requires someone to get closer to the fire and that a strong wind might limit the effectiveness. A typical fire extinguisher won't last as long, but it will probably fully discharge more product, so someone could blow and walk away. The advantage of this system is simplicity, portability/weight, time to correctly point and extinguish the fire or to hit multiple areas, not blowing the oil or gas or whatever in the process of extinguishing it, and easy clean up.

Some very good insight. One thing not covered in the video is that Element can also fight a fire in confined spaces by absorption. In a car it can be deployed and the gas that comes out will put out a fire in a confined space without having to actively fight the flames. Element is currently used by police, special forces, and military in other parts of the world and we are currently working with North American Law Enforcement to make it standard equipment for the men and women that protect our nation.

In an actual vehicle fire, you can't beat a 5+ pound A,B,C dry chemical extinguisher. These products have their place. But when my car's on fire, I want the best proven product. This is a gamble. Plus, you have to be right up on the fire for it to work. With a dry chemical you can safely discharge from a distance. I'll choose the dry chem any day of the week.

People should pay more attention. From the Element website: "WHERE IS ELEMENT MADE? Element is designed and manufactured in Italy." It's not a revolutionary US space program product, this is just a guy who bought the US marketing rights to something that has been on sale in Europe for years. If it was so fantastic, all of Europe would be raving about it by now and it would be kitemarked to the European EN 3 fire extinguisher approval standard. It isn't. "IS ELEMENT CERTIFIED? Element cannot be used to substitute extinguishers in regulated environments that require a UL (or UL endorsed) certification." In the US that means this thing has no UL rating and meets no NFPA standard, cannot be used to meet DOT requirements for extinguishers on commercial vehicles either. Keep watching future videos to see if Jay replaces his big wall-mounted Halon extinguishers with these little tubes. I predict not. Moral: Buy a real fire extinguisher that has a real rating, real approvals and can put out more than a 1 or 2 square foot KZbin demo fire.
