I met Mr. Leno at a car show when I was 17 (1994). I had just begun building my first Mustang. He talked with me for probably 20 minutes, he gave me some wisdom concerning my rebuild (basically talked me out of doing what a lot 17 year olds would do😂). 3 years later I was in a car show in Rhode Island with the finished car. Mr. Leno was there and he remembered talking with me previously and congratulated me on the build. Even made some comments about my previous plans. I was blown away that he remembered the car. He is a real person, nothing fake about him. Just genuine.

Jay, you have the greatest sense of humour ever, I am very happy that you weren't hurt worse than you were. Nyself, I was hit riding my GSX-R1000R ride on the street in front of the emergency ward at the Jubilee hospital here in Victoria. Mear blocks from home. Anyway, broken collar bones are no fun!!! As you say though, men and over 40, we don't learn any new tricks do we. 😀 May you be well, and thank you so much for sharing your FANTASTIC automobile collection with all of us. There are no better collections in my mind, I especially love the 7.0 litre 1966 Ford, the one you got your Father to buy back when---year before I roamed the planet. Just a great car, as are all the others. Best to you ALL!!!

If I could have anything in that garage, it would be Jay Leno’s work ethic. He kept doing his weekend sets after getting half his face burned off, then got thrown off his bike couple months ago and he’s already back in the garage (with a still fractured collar bone) making videos for us. I wish you all the best Jay and can’t even put in words how incredibly much I admire you!

So glad you are recovering. I miss your show and enjoy these videos. When that Cadillac was new I used to go and sit in the new Chevys at the Chevy dealer on the Boulevard of the Allies in Oakland, Pa. around the corner from our apartment & then go and have lunch at the S & B Deli next door & have a cheeseburger, fries and a Vernon's Ginger Ale. Both gone now but the dealership is so big with huge ramps for the cars that the city of Pittsburgh doesn't know HOW to repurpose the building. The Chevy dealer had dealerships all over the East Coast. Vernon's Ginger Ale is still around. I was 5 when that Caddy was new. I'm going to be 71 next month.

The coolest part about cars is the history involved and things that went on during those times … the icing on the cake is owning and driving a old car …. That’s all I want is a daily older truck or car… I was saving money to buy something which took me years to save but then I lost my son in a car accident he was 20 years old … the car or truck I wanted would of eventually went to him … it squashed my dreams

Most car guys tend to think that the craft is dying and that nobody will ever be able to hand build components ever again. This is bullocks, there will always be passionate people able to learn it. It is the machine built components that we have to worry about, once the machine no longer exists it may become very hard indeed to reproduce the part.

I have my Dad's 1967 Cadillac deVille convertible since I was 12 years old. He owned an auto body shop and always had a Cadillac. He was going to junk it when he bought a 1972 Fleetwood Brougham. I told him that I wanted it and I am now 58 years old. The car has over 200,000 miles on it and cosmetically is a beauty. I had the original 429 engine rebuilt last year for a small fortune of $11,000 bucks. The rear main seal is leaking so much that I can't really drive the car . It needs a quart of oil every 100 miles or so. It's just a damned shame that this car is undriveable due to a $30 piece of rubber ! I have contacted a Cadillac restoration shop that I hope will be able to solve my problem. If not, I will have to source another 429 engine and start from scratch again. Glad to see Jay back at work and keeping these old cars running.

Slight side note, EVERYONE who works for Jay seems particularly expert, not only in their specific trade, but how the entire process at Jay’s Garage. Love this channel…❤

How awesome would it be to work as a mechanic in a garage where the owner had the means and patience to do jobs the right way, researching the original designs, waiting for original parts, and assembling it all with the goal of having it be the best it could be? Except maybe that the owner was nearly separated from his head cutting across a lot on his motorcycle.

Jay is having a rough go lately. I appreciate your spirit, Jay - to push through the obvious pain in order to share the art and engineering as well as some of the skilled folks keeping these mechanical wonders in working order so they can be appreciated into the future.

Sorry you got hurt Mr. Leno, and here's to a full recovery for you. I turn 72 this month, and I got hurt just before Christmas when a car leaving a parking lot didn't see me riding my bicycle on the sidewalk and ran over me. Yes, like you said, good thing I wasn't an old guy or that could have been serious! My knees got twisted up in the bicycle frame before the car backed off of me, and both knees still hurt, but that's life. I restore old bicycles. They are easy and cheap compared to Duesenberg's!

Geez, Jay. Be careful! You are an American icon of cars .I enjoy learning from you here and I could listen all day. Back in the 70s ,I had a '57 Chrysler Saratoga (push button shifting) (near mint) and a '62 Chrysler Imperial I drove back from California with my wife and brother (RIP Kevin) after my wife and I hitch hiked to southern Cal from Michigan City, Indiana with 50 dollars ,a suitcase, and duffel bag. We really met some decent people for rides all the way. We got the mint Imperial for only 250 dollars because the sellers wife needed diapers for their baby! When I drove back to LaPorte ,Indiana, the first gas station I hit was where the attendant offered me 600 dollars on the spot for the car Travelled across the Mojave with a cool black dude and a long haired friend of his in a '63 Chevy Impala with cold Coors beer in the back seat with us. The longest wait for a ride was at St. Louis until a van with long hairs picked us up and let us party with them before continuing West. Heh. Keep the channel going, I dig it! I am a young 73 today. Peace.

Jay it is great to see you are back to work. I am a car guy but in a little different way than you. I worked for Ford Motor Company from 1969 until 2012. I have been around the globe a few times fixing Ford products no one else could repair and solving engineering issues in 46 different countries traveling millions of miles of in the process. I really enjoy your videos and I am very happy to see you are healing well from your accidents. I hope you continue to heal and stay healthy. I would love to see your cars collection. Thank you for giving us a peek at them by doing these videos.

I'm the same age as you Jay and have owned and ridden motorcycle's since I was 15. I did an inventory of all the bikes owned and it was around 70 or so. Two years ago I found out I had cancer and with chemo and radiation and drugs, I had a problem with balance. Can't have a problem with balance on the 405 at 70mph ! (As if you can go 70 on the 405 these days). You talked about your injury's from the bike acedent and the face fire incident and it so related to me. After all the years building and restoring cars and bikes I have had to come to grips with my age, so I built my last car and sold my last bike. Keep on riding and building for the rest of us geezers Jay.. I'll be watching. PS: I met you three times, once at the Rock Store and twice at the spring fling Chrysler show. I spotted your Stanly was on fire and my friend Jay ran under the car with a blanket to put it out.

Really good to see Jay is going to be ok. He really is a national treasure to the hobby, not to mention quite philanthropic to many charities as well. On top of all that, by all accounts he's a nice guy to boot too; it'd be a bucket list thing for me to meet him one day. Love these resto blogs! - Ed on the Ridge
