I don’t know if anyone else has commented it. But shout out Lottie. She was a great friend. She sacrificed her “happily ever after”, her dream that she’s been dreaming about as a child, for her best friend in an instant. Despite their clear differences in circumstances, she didn’t treat her any differently. I’ve read people say that she could have easily given Tiana the money for the restaurant but in my mind, I think she knew she would be too proud to take it, so hired her and gave her too much money instead. Standing by and watching your friend get everything they’ve wished for is beautiful
@bluewolf632310 ай бұрын
It's honestly weird when people watch the whole movie and ask, "Why didn't Lottie just give the money away?" Or "Why doesn't Tiana just ask for the money?" It's like they didn't hear Tiana's Almost There song where she says,"Taking the Easy Way. " she doesn't want easy. She wants hard work. Lottie probably did give her money and handouts, but Tiana rejected it, and Lottie respected it. Lottie is an underrated Disney friend, honestly. I love her!!
@simonsonian897710 ай бұрын
Also, that blue dress was in no way Lottie's style or size. I guarantee she had that thing prepared for Tiana, just in case. She may be way too much at all times, but she was a good friend. Oh, and given the time period, being openly and publicly friends with Tiana probably destroyed her social life, but she sticks by her.

Yes, Lottie is definitely “extra”; but for a spoiled rich girl, I am impressed by how good a friend she is. She sees Tiana tumbled and disheveled at the party, she doesn’t even think of the overturned beignets, or bat an eye at taking time out from pursuing the Prince to get Tiana a new costume, no hint of jealousy in her admiration at how lovely she is in the gown. And at the end, she is fully willing to kiss the frog for her friend, with nothing in it for herself (and genuinely sorry when it doesn’t work). No, no, no. I love Ray too, but what happened is *_not_* in any way Mama Odie‘s fault. Tiana had to be married to a prince to be a princess. The kiss would not work until *_after_* they were wed. And they had to make that decision on their own; to do it because it would make them human again would be for the wrong reasons. So unfortunately, Ray’s death COULD NOT have been avoided by Mama Odie speaking up sooner. She already gave them a HUGE hint in admonishing them to learn the difference between _want_ and _need;_ the rest they had to figure out for themselves. (- there are no shortcuts to the understanding that comes through time and experience.)

I will always ADORE how good of a friend Lottie was to Tiana. I always feel we dont see enough true girl friendships in Disney Princess movies. Sure, the prince usually has a confidant or two and so do side characters, but the princess either only has her family or an animal sidekick, or is all alone. I was so happy to finally see a true, non-toxic, female friendship and Lottie deserves her own movie because she was so amazing to Tiana, giving up her life long dream without batting an eye and never seeing Tiana as lesser for their differences in social standing/the racial divides of the 1920's.

23:20 The way I looked at this scene moreso is that his parents kinda failed him. Unintentionally. Yes, he grew up privileged and he's spoiled and immature. But that's because his parents raised him that way. Then they suddenly cut him off as soon as he becomes an adult and just kind of expected him to learn how to be a responsible without teaching him how? It's the equivalent of your kid not knowing how to swim, so you toss them head-first into the deep end of a pool and just cross your fingers hoping they don't drown. When I looked at it that way, his situation is a lot more sad than it comes off. His family basically just gave up on him one day and he has to learn how to be a functioning member of society from scratch.

They're frogs because they didn't use the original Grimm fairytale. The version they used is The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker, published in 2002 (I used to have this book as a kid before I gave it away). In this story, a Caucasian princess ran away from her kingdom to avoid an arranged marriage. She meets a frog in the woods, who asks for a kiss to turn him back into a prince. She kisses the frog, but instead of him turning back into a prince, she ends up turning into a frog. They spend almost the entire book as frogs as they go on this adventure to break the spell. Disney didn't want to do the Grim version because it's too predictable and they've done this kind of story too many times. Plus, it turned out to be a good thing that they didn't use these versions. The princess in The Frog Prince was a spoiled brat who treated everyone around her like crap. The frog becomes a prince not because she kissed him but because she threw him up against the wall because, for the spell to be broken, the prince had to get the princess to be angry with him, which doesn't make any sense whatsoever (had they done this version, we'd get the "Angry Black Woman" trope). The Grim's version of The Frog Princess is too dated. In that tale, three princes had to shoot an arrow. If the arrow lands in front of a woman, that's who they're going to marry. The youngest prince's arrow lands in front of a frog and together they have to perform three tasks for the King before he chooses who will succeed him. In the end, the youngest son was declared the winner. He kissed the frog and she turned into a princess, another predictable storyline. (One that would give young girls the message that men have the right to marry who they want while women don't, a message they're trying to get away from) When they came across the ED Baker version, Disney was excited about it because they finally found a way to tell the story, so even though it would still be predictable, it would at least feel fresh for the young audiences who haven't read the Baker book, along with gaining fans who have.

No, I don't think we should all feel sad for people that grew up privelaged to not HAVE to do things. But there's something to be said about parents that shelter their kids, that don't teach them things outside of what's expected of them, and to suddenly then throw them into the real world with no grasp on how to do that stuff. At the beginning of the movie, Naveen is blissfully ignorant at his financial situation - at least that's what we see. But by this point, we find out how much it bothered him. It's not fun to just dump that out on people - namely the girls he's only trying to flirt with - but yeah. ouo I don't know, I like the slightly deeper male protagonists we get out of modern animated movies.
@teresar6348Ай бұрын
I feel bad if Naveen wasn't given the exposure. It's kinda hard to know what it is you don't know otherwise. Plus while he is an adult, he was only 20, and being royalty thing doesn't exactly tend towards the whole 'moving out thing' even if you want to.

They’re currently working on a Tiana show for Disney+ but there’s rumors going around that they’re gonna turn it into a theatrical film like what they’re doing with Moana 2 which was also originally gonna be a Disney+ show.
