I remember when this movie came out, people were arguing that Vanessa's actress should have been cast as Ariel, her voice was so perfect for the role, perfect disney princess vibes. Not even realising that it was Halle's voice in that scene? The hypocrisy of these people, only agreeing that Halle was perfect for the role when her voice was coming out of a white body. Truly speaks volumes

They say they chose it based on their voice, so I'm sure the voice is right. Rather, it should be said that only the voices match. For example, if an actress had been chosen who looked exactly like Ariel even though her voice didn't quite match, that casting would have definitely been criticized.

I saw this movie in theaters and it was like reliving my childhood. The little mermaid was on of my favorite Disney movies growing up, and Halle was a perfect cast for Ariel. Especially during Part of that world. I'm not gonna lie, when that song came up, i actually cried. Don’t know why but i just felt so emotional.

The sisters having a movie sort of happened. Little Mermaid 3: Ariel's Beginning. It's one of the disney sequels with a budget, so the animation doesn't look terrible. It has Sally Field as a villain with an adorable manatee as a sidekick. It's a prequel so it features all the sisters and gives them a little characterization to flesh them out, Attina's the oldest and most responsible, Adella's boy crazy, etc. Interestingly despite being a disney sequel, they did take some inspiration from it for this movie. We get the backstory of how Ariel's mother died by human intervention, which was carried over to this movie. Now for something involving the live action sisters (who have different names and have actual political power as opposed to the original cartoon where only Attina was being prepared for inheriting the crown) there is I believe a book they released about them detailing their individual personas. Ursula being Triton's sister was originally in the cartoon but they ignored it for some reason. It pops up in a lot of other Disney media about The Little mermaid tho, especially in the stage musical. In the musical she even had 6 sisters of her own, all who died under her watch for her to claim the throne. She forgot Triton was born apparently.

Not all of Disney’s live action films are good, but they’ve done great with casting. Angelina Jolie IS Maleficent, Lily James IS Cinderella, and Halle Bailey IS Ariel.

Loved what they did in expanding the story; she's wonderful and the cast is great. I bought the soundtrack on vinyl record, and it's molded in an ocean foam color. Very cool.

My theory for why all of Triton's daughters are different nationalities is that Triton adopted all of them after humans destroyed all their homes, and Ariel is his only biological daughter, who never had an altercation with humans before. (Or maybe she IS adopted, and she was just too young to remember)

I love this movie so much. People are just haters they can't accept a black Ariel. I thought having the original Ariel giving the fork to Halle was amazing cause it's like she is passing the torch to the new actreess and telling Halle that the part is her's now. Lin Manuel did in fact write the song that Skuttle sings and he co wrote all the songs with the original music writer for the original. The only songs that were from the original are Under the sea,Part of your world and Poor unfortunite souls the others were all original. When Skuttle asks kill the prince instead of kiss that was a nod to the original book cause in that story Ariel was meant to kill the prince by sunrise but she couldn't do it so she runs back to the sea and the sun comes up making her into a statue. Halle blows me away with her voice and it makes me smile everytime I hear her sing Part of your world. I thought Malissa did an amazing job as Ursulla and despitre her being worried about the singing part I thought she did it well. This is in fact my favorite live action movie they have done so far though Malifacent and Mulan are not apart of that in my opition cause Malifacent was it's own story and Mulan was based on the actual legend and not at all connected to the cartoon in any way. Glad you liked this one as much as I did and grate reaction.
