This reminds me of the my favorite Dolly quote. Someone once easier her how long it took to get her hair done. She replied, "I have no idea, honey, I'm never there when it's done!"

I have lost hair through illness and watching your videos have encouraged me to embrace wigs. My family say they can tell my mood by what wig I wear. I love the fact "my hair " is whatever I feel like and I am not stuck with a particular style. Thank you Jaymes you make a difference to my outlook on my life.

I believe her friend Judy Ogle used to do her wigs. Also, most of the time Dolly's wigs were 3/4 wigs and everything around her face and bangs were her own hair.

Dolly’s aunt Colleen Owens did her wigs from the beginning of her career through the 80s! I replied to your tweet of this video with some photos of Dolly and Colleen
@mthivier4 жыл бұрын
I believe Dolly’s first hair stylist was her aunt Colleen Owens (Colleen was married to Dolly’s Uncle Bill Owens, who acted as her first manager, and was her frequent songwriting partner when she first got to Nashville, right up through the Porter Wagoner years.) She used to keep track of Dolly’s wigs, having them washed and reset, and keeping them in good repair. Colleen and Dolly’s first costume designer Lucy Adams helped Dolly achieve would come to be her signature look during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

I'm an older person (48) and I've been told for years that as I get older, I'll care more about what people think... That I'll cut my hair shorter, wear more mainstream (read: boring) clothes, and so on. Instead, I seem to care less and less about what people think about my presentation. My hair is waist length and I now color my grey with neon hot pink. I wear mary jane kitty shoes and holo stuff... I figure if someone is going to judge me negatively because of my appearance, then they've saved me the time and effort of learning they aren't my kind of person. 😄

People are going to judge no matter what we do. Being ourselves is at least more fun than trying to conform.

I don't know who did her wigs but my version dvd of 9 to 5 had a commentary with the cast and Dolly loved her costumes on that movie so much she hired that costume maker to do all her costumes for the next few years. Commentaries from films give out the best secrets sometimes. I love em!

I love this Dolly hair so much! Dolly's hair on the LP sleeve for 9 to 5 is credited to Colleen Owens in the liner notes. I think that's Dolly's aunt. If you google for the name you'll find some amazing pictures of her doing Dolly's hair. Some of her 80s albums also credit famous Hollywood make-up artist Susan Germaine for the hair.

Hey Jaymes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you were talking about the different women lead movies, I wanted to mention The Women (1939) starring Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goodard, Joan Fontaine, and a whole cast of nothing but women. There were no guys seen in this movie other then when they were referenced in the movie. The movie is about Norma Shearer's character finding out that her husband is having an affair with Joan Crawford's character. The movie centers around the drama, mess, and even catfights that the women get into while living. For 1939 it is an awesome movie and I HIGHLY recommend it. :)
