To those who are trying to pitch correct a minor sample to a major sample, you can't just transpose a minor key into a major key, because a minor scale has a different structure than a major scale.

I do have one question when you're doing this how you how do you know on the piano roll if you're in major or minor
@JayPhatty3 жыл бұрын
Major and minor is all about the kind of notes you're hitting and in what order. Major chords most of the time sound happier and minor sadder. Major has a chord code of 0-4-7 where minor is 0-3-7 meaning the 0 is the "Root" or the first note you're hitting in the chord (most of the time). Now you would just count to the right each step (black and white keys) until you get to the 3rd note phrom your root. You would go to the 4th note if you wanted major and then phrom there you would count to 7 (phrom the 3 or 4) amd that would complete your chord. I'll link a video that visually explains it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHPQeZqIisSKkK8

so im making mashups to youtube and ppl have said that the beats are off key so do you know that how to fix it like if dont know the key of beat/sample (in fl studio) any tips would help :D
@JayPhatty2 жыл бұрын
if you dont know the key you can use wave candy in FL Studio, I have a video that shows how to use it - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6i7aGupgceFfNE&ab_channel=JayPhatty Now if you dont know any music theory you might wanna learn a little bit of that just to understand what root notes are and scales that way you can understand the key of each song and combine them if needed. I have another video that shows how to combine samples that are different bpm or keys which in theory would be the same process phor mashups since your are putting two different songs in different bpms and keys together so ill share that one too - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmGzlJWDjap1acU&ab_channel=JayPhatty

that time-warp jaunt just been sitting there for like a year smh, is newtime any different then setting the global bpm and like stretching out the sample to the beat measure though?
@JayPhatty2 жыл бұрын
Yeah NewTime is the same as doing that with the bpm but it also offers more. It allows you to have groove / shift markers that let you manipulate the sample in certain ways.

how do we do this when we dont know the key of the samples from before hand ?
@JayPhatty2 жыл бұрын
You can use wave candy (which is a default FL studio effect, to determine the key). I have a video on it, on my page.

well if one of the samples is in D# and you want to change another sample to that key or change that sample to a different key, its the same process, count on the piano roll each step is 100 cents.

why is e minor there ? is e5 e minor ??
@JayPhatty2 жыл бұрын
E is just a note and minor is the scale. So in this case, E Minor would mean its a minor scale with the root note E. E5 is just representing the actual note in that octave range. So you know how on a piano the notes repeat? The start of an octave is the note C and then it goes up, all the white keys being Whole keys and the black keys being sharps/flats it goes up 11 keys (counting each white key and black key) then on the 12th keys it's C again. But since we went up, that C will be a higher pitch and all the notes that continue up will be higher pitched compared to the original section or "octave". You can also go down and get deeper pitched verisons of the notes. That's why there is E5, C4 and all the other keys with numbers right after. It's just signifying where in the octave ranges that note sits. Technically there are Infinite octaves that go up and down since sound / frequency is Infinite, but our human ears can only perceive a certain frequency range.

Depending on the sample it could be not exactly at a certain bpm. Try to get as close as you can and then when you hit sync it creates markers on some of the transients. You might have to manually put them on time. It works 90 percent of the time if you know the exact bpm your sample it at.
