I'd imagine this is where the Master emerald was kept many years before Angel island was even a floating island, perhaps previously it was in the mystic cave hidden palace, and after labyrinth zone, the current hidden palace, and then finally the shrine it's kept at in the modern games, perhaps alternating between the two angel island locations as Knuckles sees fit.

This, Sonic 2 Absolute, Sonic CD Restored (& Knuckles) and Sonic 3 A.I.R. are way better than Origins. If you want things done right then do it yourself and it will all pay off and have more love, effort and care than the company's attempt that cost money.

My theory:I think that shrine was the first hidden palace where knuckles kept the emerald but it's gone because something happened to it and knuckles or maybe knuckles didn't know about the emerald except maybe eggman tried taking it but the question is what happened for the emerald to be gone???

Well, both Hyper Tails and Hyper Knuckles look exactly the same, the only thing missing is afterimages, but as for Sonic, the Hyper palette is clearly missing. Oh, and by the way, please don't bother with "There's no Hyper Tails" - SEGA already took care of it as far as Sonic Mania, and multiple later titles including Origins. Tails with Super Flickies IS Hyper Tails, while the one without them is Super.
