Great job from France ! I own a 2002 996 Targa since January. This car is clearly the good deal. And one thing concerning the headlights : be aware that all the « disliked » Porsches are those that see them value increase with years...a specialist Porsche told me to not sell it... 996 Targa + 205 GTI 1.9 (full stock, low miles) = my pleasure

"Listen to people who have owned them." So true. I went with a 997 for the simple complaint about the 996 seats, which I heard dozens of times. Since my commute was 155 miles 2x per week, that was a deal breaker. I got a 2008 C2 with 80k miles for $30K. Never regretted it for a moment.

I can't fault your logic as we're in sync. I've owned various VWs, but the pull of the 911 is strong. Gravitated to a 996.1 and it's in the garage now!

Good vid, and good advice as you mentioned the strategy that I used my self when I buy a car, especially from a dealership. I recently brought I cayman 987, and that was the first time I brought a car when I loved it and just wanted to buy it regardless of what ever discount. That is what happens when you buy a Porsche I guess. Luckily I did the test drive on my own so car sales man did not see my initial pleasure of driving and after test drive did compose my self and managed a reasonable discount. Basically the Porsche brand evokes so much emotion than other premium brands that you need to control them when making a deal

Hi J - enjoying this and your other vids from blighty. Info in this buyer’s guide is very useful and helps me to reconcile these risks and issues with my own additional concerns (should I really buy a 20+ year old 996 and keep on my North London driveway). Thanks again G

Good stuff thanks Jay. You are so lucky being in USA and having some much choice ( and cheap petrol). Intending to purchase mine in Australia and they cost a lot more.. wondering how these go with typical driving such as higher driveway curbs and speed humps, turning circle in Carpark’s - any issues cheers.
@JAYREAD4 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil! You have to be a bit careful with speed humps and kerbs because they are quite low down but the ride is pretty supple so it’s no worse than a ‘normal’ car really. Same with turning circle: the car is quite small and so no problems there. HTH!
