Shorting jumpers are the right thing to do when you have an extra set of speakers in the room. Good work Jay.
@allanellis58272 күн бұрын
Can you tell me why the extra speakers needed to be shorted? I am not familiar with this. Thx
@Justwantahover2 күн бұрын
@allanellis5827 My guess is that when it's shorted, the drivers are charging a little bit of electricity through the short circuit, causing resistance to the cone movement, when resonating with the bass in the room. I often pad my guitar strings to stop them from resonating in sympathy with my system.
@EskWIRED3 күн бұрын
The way you are testing it is the correct way to do it. The component under test should always be the weak Link in the system.

I get what you mean, but the vast majority of people will never be able to afford to hear them sound this good, so surely there is also an argument to pair them with more similarly priced components 🤔

PS Audio tech recommended 100 hours for breakin period. My pair arrived yesterday and I will be streaming 24/7 for 4-5 days up to Thanksgiving with the initial listening session on Thanksgiving (I prefer music to football on TGiving!). Interested Jay if you notice differences as you break in the speakers. I am Grateful you are doing this review. You may be the first serious review of the fr5's and certainly the first to pair with the Gryphons. Brava!

I love the idea of connectingthe FR5's to the same equipment that drives your Q7's. I think I mentioned this on your Facebook page, this allows us/you to hear how well they can compete with the Q7's. Obviously, no one is expecting the base from the FR5's that the Q7's produce, but how well do the midrange and high-end match up? How well is the overall performance of the FR5's? This is the way to find out. Excellent.

Seriously though, anyone who thinks that speakers are the most important component in a system needs to ask themselves if this system would sound nearly as good if a $500,000 pair of speaker were being driven by $3,500 worth of electronics.

A good experiment! It clearly showed that no electronics can pull out budget acoustic systems. As they say: Kharma Veyron 5D for $180,000 with electronics and cables for $50,000 will destroy a set of inexpensive acoustics with electronics for a million. Moreover, without a single chance )
@onethousandtwonortheast884819 сағат бұрын
Out of all the recordings you could have chosen, you choose a modern day Franz Liszt wannabe pseudo virtuoso. Disappointing but I get why you did. His stuff is extremely stylistic and extreme is what you’re all about. Personally, I would have chosen a diverse recording that covers the spectrum in frequency and transients. A guitar is singular in tonal reach. Not my cup of tea. YMMV.

You know Jay, this is a big deal. Speakers need to be tested on a killer front end. It helps the consumer greatly, knowing that said speakers/component can scale up with better gear. We often chase better? sound through not knowing the true potential of what we already own. You should consider this as a public service Jay. Do this more in the future buddy.

I hope Paul McGowan and Chris Brunhaver watch these FR-5 videos and send you some FR-30 floorstanders. You would be the FIRST KZbin review. They are probably hesitant since your gear is beyond most of their customers. Also you are the ONLY reviewer I have ever heard of that did not love the BHK 300 amplifiers. Most reviewers purchased their review samples. It will be interesting to see these little guys pushed to their very max. I doubt if PS Audio tested the FR-5 with this level of gear.
