The only speaker anybody in this price range should consider is the Martin logan's, the electrostatic panel gives them a huge advantage in Clarity and production of sound.

You have to put a high pass filter on the little one and with a good set-up I am sure you will be very close to the big one. Perhaps better because with the sub you can optimize the bass response what you can not always do with the big one.

My experience says, that the room size determins the area of the diaphragm. So, in midsize and large rooms, you need to have larger woofer, and in most cases more than one woofer per cabinet. At higher listening levels, the bookshelfes woofer can't "grip" the air nearly as good as floorspeakers with larger diaphragm. And, when too small woofer are pushed to make large excursions, the distortion increases - today less that few years ago as magnetsystem construction and voicecoils material are improved. In larger rooms, a standmount speaker simpli can't make it with full frequency music signals. Plus, a speaker with high effiency, say 94dB, needs a lot less power amplification than a 87dB bookshelf speaker. I don't agree that a large woofer needs a large power amp, but most customers feels that fits better, so that is easy to sell - and if you have a very large room, and want to create 110dB in peaks, yeah then a large power amp is nice to have.

Try the Linn 360’s with Organik / Utopik and the Next Generation Klimax DSM. Probably better and way cheaper for the whole system. Fully active with dedicated amps and servo subs.

You are right on about the need for proper associated equipment. I upgraded to a loudspeaker with 85 dBA sensitivity and 4 ohm impedance, with minimums of 2 ohms in the power hungry bass frequencies. I had to get a high current, class A biased amp to avoid clipping the low bass and properly drive the speaker. Thank you for this interesting comparison.

Warning: If the USA puts a Tariff on Canada we'll have to stop buying USA products as much as possible. And likely some from other Countries would support us this way too. Let's hope it doesn't come to this, we're so much better off as friends and Allies. You would be shocked at how much Canada buys from the USA. We are the ones who are actually in a Trade deficit with the USA, the ones who should actually be charging a tax to do so much business here. As you can tell, we are quite offended. We have been such a strong supporter of the USA for so long.

Keep on "keepin' it real" Jay. My experience: While 'bookshelf' speakers can do many things well, they can't take control of every molecule of air in the room the way large floor standers can. In a small room however, or when the listening position gets too close, the sound from all the drivers can't integrate into a whole. So, small room: stand mounts with a sub, large room: floor standers.

Well after spending a good deal of time watching your channel for a second time I think I've finally had enough. Firstly small speakers will only not go with your super high end electronics when you think you need to listen at 110db spl. Course its not gonna sound like an AC/DC concert at most likely 120 to 130 db. But thats not far from standing 30 feet away from a jet airplane taking off at 130 to 140 db.85 to 90db is loud as hell in a 15foot by 20footroom. Pick your poison. Secondly the you tube algorythem has an average frequency response of 500 to 8,000hertz. Human hearing is possible from 20 to 20,000hertz. Most humans by the age of 25 are lucky to hear above 15,000 hertz. With the exception of most women who haven't been physically abused by their piece of shit other half. So the majority of men and women can easily hear all the sound the algorythem can put out. No matter how loud you turn it up that's all. So if you think any music over you tube can tell how any piece of equipment really sounds, I've got a piece of swamp land ind Florida you might love also. Thirdlyeven though my first two comments are the honest truth, just check them out if you don't believe me,if you Jay, had hooked up a pair of subwoofers to either of those two standmounts 90 % of your subscribers would have declared them to stomp all over those big Magicos And 20 to 30% of them would have wanted at the very to nuy a pair of those FR-5's or A-5's Whichever they could most easily afford. And you"d of probably made more money than you'll ever make trying to sell those big Magicos. And finally most likely 75 to 90 % of your subscribers could actually afford to buy any of your super high dollar equipment. Sorry to say that but I'm sure you've already seen that. And maybe make almost as much money off you-tube as selling the equipment you buy. Anyway good luck with your chsnnel, hope you eventually make enough money to survive.
@peter3728
@peter3728 Ай бұрын
are you sure its not a tilted up high frequency that leads you to believe they are "more clear"? Another wasted opportunity to not run a quick frequency response test to support what you hear. I know I'm a broken record but you have a unique opportunity with such a huge range of speakers moving through the lab to run some simple tests that can support your listening observations. Ron at New record day and Erins audio corner are leading the way in this area. Blending objective snd subjective evaluation will make us all smarter.

I love the comparison video's. Jay> "I don't think there is a stand mounted speaker, regardless of price, that can compete with the Magico Q7" Man, I would love to take that challenge. I'd have to bring you a stand mounted speaker and a pair of our servo subs, as a four piece system, to go head to head full range, but no problem. I'd be willing to bet that I can better them in imaging, sound stage layering, separation, better vocals, tighter bass (servo control), and deeper bass (flat to 20Hz), and for a fraction of the price. Even for less than the price of the stand mounted speakers, subs and all. Does that sound interesting?

A1 with dual subs will never equal an A5. Simply because the midbass woofer on the A1 is not a dedicated midrange driver and has inherently more compromises than the dedicated midrange driver of the A5. Besides, the A5 was the first model to use the aluminum honeycomb midrange driver that was not present on the A1. Also better crossover components.
