*During my high school years, Mrs. Carter, my Trigonometry/Geometry teacher, recognized my potential at an early stage. I had the privilege of participating in the campaign trail of her spouse, Mr. Patrick H. Carter. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to form a partnership with Mrs. Chism, alongside Commissioner Sidney Chism, before his political involvement. Notably, my current internship with our college police department has been transformative for me. In light of these experiences, I am confidently charting my course forward.*

@@andrewaltimas9907 you are not good at making money? So what. Who cares? To the extent that voters care about the length of your resume, that is the least of their concerns. I will most likely try municipal politics as it stands right now in Canada there is an option to run as independent in city elections. Cheers Andrew.

What can I do to further pursue this career?

Major in a subject that you love. But you 1/. should take courses in public speaking, and writing, and perhaps one in literature. 2/. Get deeply involved in campusg activities where you'll make friends. 3/. consider getting involved in student government where you'll meet people who may become friends for life.

Thanks for this video Mr. Townsend! I wanted to ask if there's any advice you might have for someone like me. I'm going to be a college graduate this year and probably head to law school, and spend time building up funds and paying back loans before campaigning, but my hometown leans the opposite way from me. Is it worth it to try to flip a district that is 5 points or so in one direction given that I have a ton of connections, or is it better to move to a district that better reflects my own beliefs?
@jaytownsend224 ай бұрын
You can overcome a 5 point deficit, especially if you are running in a city where you have deep roots. If you move somewhere, you’ll have to spend a lot of time developing a new network of friends and influencers. Jay

Politicians are getting a bad rap due to the divisions in our country. I think we need to redefine what a politician is, such as "public servant," with the emphasis on "servant." The first qualification is, is this your calling. Second, is there someone that aligns with your values, that you genuinely admire. We need good people to be politicians at every level. Thanks, Jay, for educating us!

Not sure if you'll see this question, but I need to figure out how I begin planning for my run as a State Representative in PA. I have many ideas in what I would want to do as a representative in the Legislative house, but I'm trying to figure out how to get into the political sphere and what I can do to get started.
