Just visited Rome last month. They have done a tremendous job in archeological excavations within the city. If they can do that in an expensive city like Rome. It can be definitely be done in Patna, if there is will. And they have been doing that systematically from time of Napoleon III in 1861 so over 160years of consistent excavation. Also they have done a lot of reconstruction to display the finds in way that people can visualize how it was in past, so presentation is also very important.

It's not possible in India... People don't give their land easily, and they are also not interested in archaeology and history like Europeans. If people and the government cooperate with each other, then we will be able to solve all the mysteries and missing links in the Indian historical timeline.

On the infighting within Indian rulers, it is one of the most important lessons in Indian history and historians have a duty to discuss that lesson. The fact that similar thing happened in Europe is no excuse for us to gloss over that. Even today we are divided eg Maratha in Gujarat/Bengal/ Odhisha. Or why rajputs kings sided with Mughals against Marathas. We need to acknowledge that it happened whether we like it or not and let bygones be bygones and learn to not be divided as Indians and understand the power of unity rather than regional pride. Historians should be asking what if questions, what if they were united?

Unity comes from an Empire. The infighting is the result of that motive & without regional pride that thought never arises. So there's no point in a false sense of nation hood.

@@AbhinandanABSI'm not saying that's false but there have been examples in Indian history and throughout the world history where kingdoms of the same civilization make alliances against barbaric foreign invaders. The identity may have been more or less important depending on the time , but there was definitely a uniform identity of Indian kingdoms and people.

This is just another rubbish opinion. What's there to discuss?? Kings, empires etc all go by their self interest(Arthashastra pov). Why should the Gurjara pratiharas have meddled to ally with their bittermost enemy Rashtrakutas over some random issue over in Sindh when a greater and more serious threat which could wipe out their existence was there by their side. Same goes for the Rashtrakutas. All that infighting etc existed everywhere and are not unique to India by any stretch of imagination. Rajputs supported Mughals bcoz that was the best thing to do. That's what Kautilya the master himself advises. Go read the VIIthe book of Arthashastra. Infact Man Singh becoming mughal vassal was the best thing for Hindus. He was infact instrumental in wiping out Afghan influence over bengal etc. Rajputs didn't support Marathas bcoz of their exploitative policies towards them(excessive chauth) and marathas not capitalising and properly guiding over internal power politics of the Rajputs. This mistake was done by Peshwa Nanasaheb. Under Peshwa Bajirao's reign the relations between rajputs were excellent. And finally regarding regionalism in modern day thats bcoz of all the Rayn Invasion Davidian divide etc nonsense which leftists and commies champion and propagate. There is no feeling of separatism except among those city dwelling upper caste bhoddorloks whose mind has been brainwashed by Communism, Dravidianism etc. Uproot these communist snakepits from Academia and media(not in the colonial manner of censorship but through proper Indic manner of unbiased Shastrath, Purva Panshanger , debate etc) and see all separatism vanish in thin air.

Equating a normal pure power politics among polities in pre modern India and interpreting this as separatist regional pride while ignoring the fact that no such speartism or animosity existed among the common people, merchants, traders monks etc and in the culture of the people is what brainwashed commies only can do. Note no separatism existed even among tamil people before the colonialists Christian missionaries and periyarists buggers took over the academia.

The primary thing I’m fascinated about history is the power of underdogs - who were in the periphery and ignored by more superior powers, suddenly emerge to become world leaders. Think of the Persians who were stuck in between large bronze age civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Indus Valley and Egypt, suddenly rose to prominence building one of the largest empires of time. They got tired of being pushed by the Sumerians, Assyrians and other empires. Then the Greeks - who were numerically small and had little unity after getting pushed enough by the mighty Persian empire, they rose in a glorious fashion under Alexander. Then Romans who were in their frontier for a long time arose to their day in sunlight. Then the Arabs who were squeezed by the Romans and Persians, had enough of it and rose under Muhammad to build an empire stretching in 3 continents. In the east, the Mongols who were considered uneducated barbarians by the Chinese, rose in a spectacular fashion to build one of the most glorious empires of the world. Then the Turks who were in their periphery for a long time, then had their time building not one but three large empires (Gunpowder Empires) stretching from Austria to India. In Europe, England was an outlier for a long time. They were constantly invaded by everyone - Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Vikings, Normans - until they had enough and become the most powerful empire in Europe. Japan was their counterpart in Asia. Another insignificant island on the periphery of civilization rising to glory in late 19th century with Meiji restoration. Then in the 20th century, we saw two powers that were thought to be the inferior cousins of Europe - Russia on one side and USA on the other side - rose dramatically to dominate Europe and a lot of the world. The thing that fascinates me the most is that almost any country - regardless of their size, wealth, strategic position and other natural advantages - could become a superpower if the timing is right and they are led right. That is what happened to all these powers above. In short, never pompously push out of the small cultures in your periphery. Who knows, tomorrow you could be ruled by them.

In the question of Gupta - Sasanid border, you kept answering on region of Punjab and Afghanistan but reality is that some historians believe that pre Arab Sindh history is not clear and there might be Sasanid direct or indirect control of present Balochistan and also lower sindh in indus valley region in 3-6th century (by this time Kushans declined, Indo Schithians were in Gujarat region), this way both Guptas and Sansanids could have been sharing borders! You never talked about Sindh and Gupta connection here. Kindly reply

Don't think that the Sassanid controlled Sindh. One could argue that the region west of the Indus may have been under their control, but even then, we have little evidence to prove that the Gupta borders stretched as far as the Indus. I am of the opinion that Balochistan, or at least the region of Makran, was probably under the control of the Sassanids, and it could be argued, based on Arab sources, that for some time in the sixth century AD, the region around Debal had come under the Sassanid control. But apart from these details, I don't think we have much evidence to prove that the Sassind control extended beyond Indus in the East.

I think this has to do with the fact that the kind of slavery which Megesthenes was familiar with, Historians use the term chattel slavery, didn't exist in India. It was much milder. Also, slavery was not as common in Ancient India as it was in the West.

I Have just a silly query we know that Vedic culture didn't existed as far as 3,000 BCE but the OIT view is that it existed back then let's say that it didn't existed still Horses were very important for Aryans and Yamnaya Tribes also used Horses is it possible that these people might have used Ashwamedha Yajnya to conquer different Regions because they seems to have spread throughout Asia to Europe to India is it possible that languages which travelled so faster is because of this very feature of Ashwamedha Yajnya in Early history where the tribes who get under the suzeranity of Aryans basically became part of Aryans and learned their culture as well.
