Planets are not explorable. The moment I saw this this game died for me. What this game does is very deceiving. If you land your ship it creates a fish bowl around you. Imagine creating a new tile set in Minecraft every time you land. The moment you load a new tile set, after a new landing, the old gets deleted. What that basically means planets serve zero purpose in this game. You cannot explore them. Stick with no man's sky. I can land everywhere in this game, run around the entire planet, build bases and have zero loading screens. This is another Bethesda scam.

Tod Howard set the bar super high when he said "this is THE space game we've always wanted to make/play" ....or something along those lines. I think to a lot of people, the openness of space , and traveling through it is a large part of that. I haven't played it yet, but I think the loading scenes, instead of the space traversal is gonna be a huge letdown for many people. When I think of "THE space game I've always wanted to play", I had a different picture of that in mind. That being said, ill just reset my expectations, and im sure ill enjoy it still on Gamepass.

Not really. A big open-world Space guy here. Played the Freelancer which to me is the OG space game that had a mind-blowing size and scope for the time it was released. Anyways, you can use something like NMS or ED to set the bar, and honestly aside from the first few "scratching the itch" type of attempts to fly from point A to point B I've never done it again. It's for the exact same reason truck simulator games don't do a 1:1 size, but cut down the travel time. It's all fun and games for 30 minutes, but in all honesty - it's boring af. Sure, 10% of the playerbase will whine, but they'll get their mods. The rest of us don't want to spend our time (of which as grown-ass people we don't have a ton to invest) just flying through space, it's literally wasting time doing nothing important. From the immersion standpoint sure - go and be a long-rage hauler if that's your thing, but you'll set a course and go off on our phone or alt-tab to do other things pretty quickly. I guarantee it. If you're a hardcore ED player, well, games are probably your life so I understand, but honestly 90% of the playerbase has like 2-3hrs a day to invest in a game like this, and will skip the long-haul journey altogether.

The problem I have with not actually flying through space is, space is just a big world map. It’d be like playing skyrim but instead of walking you pick a notable location on the map and just fast travel there, no random encounters, no exploration it’s just moving from point to point which is really odd for an open world game. I think my problem (personal problem, not problem with the game) is I want a space rpg with space exploration like starcom or the outer wilds or astroneer, but for a more grounded rpg like starfield, you can’t really have planets you can just walk around the entire way. I think I would still prefer if the game was just a few properly crafted planets that you could circumnavigate BUT that would remove the whole point of creating a ship and space exploration.

forgive me this might just be me but when i hear certain things about how it’s just not possible to do impressive cinematics in a large rpg my mind goes right to baldur's gate 3. they’re very different but my reaction on hearing that Bethesda obviously can’t do this or that in this review made me realize how much that game has changed my standards

Is it bad that we have to rely on the community to make mods that should've been in the game in the first place?? I'm stll ambitious about the visible weapon holster idle (on casual outfits) on a DLC but most definitely it will be a mod instead.

I’m okay it’s not like no man’s sky where you can just fly for a year in real time and get to a new planet if you want. The exploration still seems massive even if it’s a restricted.
@The06pascals Жыл бұрын
Regarding the space flights you are talking about around the 10 minute mark, have you tried flying from a planet to another planet or to it’s moon? I heard that it is possible but it would take some time. I know that you can also set courses instead of fast traveling. That would mean it is possible.

I honestly think the downsides, not being able to traverse an entire planet, not being able to land on a planet from space to ground, fly in atmosphere etc. Don't matter much in the end. Sure, it'd be cool to fly in atmosphere, land, get out and walk around the entire planet. But that's a.... one or two time thing and then you're like "ughhh, where's fast travel?" At least, generally. Once you're 30-40 hours into a 200-300 hour game, you're not doing crap like that anymore, short of being a completionist (good luck in this game bud, hah) So I think it definitely is held back by Bethesda's tech. Their engine is shit, always has been, and always will be. Will only fall further behind as time moves on. Truly blows my mind they have put a team on developing their next gen engine yet. But, it really doesn't hold the game back. You're not randomly running around random planets that often. The vast majority of content, the content worth doing, is in cities and their outlying areas.

You say there are unique places, and maybe there is in the game itself, but literally some of the rooms i'm seeing in this video are direct copies of places in Fallout 4. Like, the whole game to be honest kind of just looks like a Fallout 4 rip off, it doesn't even look that much better graphically. Not saying it's a bad game, i'm sure it's not and that I will enjoy it, just not as revolutionary as Bethesda and some content creators are making it out to be

listen man, i am just glad that they didnt pull a single player version of F76, that is something that needs to be celebrated cuz i used to be a fallout fan til that that, and if they can make space fallout 4 without game breaking bugs or your pc crashing and blowing up, i see that as a success. bethesda has the right idea but they are like an old man, stubborn and set on their ways but means well.

I think you did a great job in this video digging into details that set apart this from other "well known review companies" that gloss over everything that makes this title stand out. Im also extremely curious just how many of these commenters that are so vehemently opposed to the structure of travel without clearly indicating if they've actually PLAYED the game or not. And for how long. Commenters who say theres no way youd be doing manual landing and flying like 200 hours in may be right... For Bethesda to pour time and money into the landing and manual flying based travel would have made zero business sense. It's a Bethesda game. In space. That's what it was always going to be. Love it or hate it, definitely need to play it before making a real opinion on how worth it is to land on planets. You can play No Mans Sky for a while to get that experience and then complain about how repetitive it is ...

I can definatly se ppl getting annoyed with the no master storage box like FO4 workbench but personally i think this may actually be a better system for gameplay and immersion. In FO4 u dident care what u picked up for the most part and every weapon, armor and junk item u dident wanna use at that moment just got jammed into that workbench to the point that u hade no ide what u even hade in there. It makes sense that if u wanna store raw material to build things with that u know where it is and how mutch u got so u wanna keep some things seperated. In FO4 u hade so mutch shit in that workbench that u very rarely dident have the items required for building. In fact u never actually hade the correct raw material in that workbench so the game hade to instead scrap random items in there to provide u with those raw materials. So the gameplay to build went like this. throw everything u come across into this workbench and when u think u have enough just start to build like your in free mode. Many players know what item gave what in FO4, but how many of u could actually say what items and how many got scraped in the process of building your settlements?

For me this game looks great as of now but for it being a space game it’s missing the space feeling of actually being able to fly into planets and being able to travel where u want manually. They just made everything a cut scene which i absoluetely hate. My opinion on this might change as i play the game myself but as of now it seems very stupid to me that it’s supposed to be AN OPEN WORLD SPACE game and was ADVERTISED that way but u can’t really do anything «space like» like traveling where u want without constantly seing a cutscene. Really hope some mods in the future will be able to fix this issue. I feel like Jedi fallen order had a good fix for this instead of just cutscenes. When u were traveling to another planet u would have to wait a minute but u would be able to Walk around in ur ship while u see that ur traveling through hyperspace.

Fallout: New Vegas was my first ever Bethesda/Obsidian game. From there I played FO4, then FO3. I know, I did it out of order lol. Anyways, FONV was definitely one of the best games I've ever played. Mostly for the story telling, atmosphere, choices, and the music. Just watching these Starfield reviews, I can see tons of FONV in this game. I'm so excited for Tuesday!!

I saw complaints in the IGN review that you can skip the boarding your ship etc completely and just do it via the star map and it completely skips all that. To me, that’s missing the point that gamers can pick their level of immersion. Fact I will always choose to board my ship, get into the cockpit etc before I open the star map to travel is my choice and time to use for that. Others won’t want to or care, the fact that reviewer couldn’t ‘unsee’ it and started doing fast travel to that level is odd to me. Similarly he criticised the fast travel as if there’s an meaningful alternative in space given the distances. The only alternative which I would personally like is that they had a Star Citizen style ‘quantum jump’ effect where you can get out and walk around the ship while you’re travelling with a timer, which you can wait based on distance too for ultimate travel immersion for say 10mins etc.. or opt to skip that fully if you wish.

The thing is, if your familiar with a Bethesda game like fallout or Skyrim, every single major interior location or dungeon has a loading screen to enter it. I expected nothing different from starfield it’s the way of the formula, and if you expect anything different then you got excited for the wrong game. I was only recently hyped up for this game and that’s because I recently played fallout 3 and Skyrim and I discovered this game is basically Skyrim in space with fallout themes as well
@bi0h4z4rd4 Жыл бұрын
Loading screens for interiors also allows for a ton more detail as they unload everything but the interior. It’s a win for attention to detail, but a loss for immersion.

This was a super detailed and helpful video! It looks as fun as a typical Bethesda game so that's cool. I'm just sad they continue to make the rpg elements more simple and feel less important overall. I liked having different stat values for stuff like lockpicking and melee or whatever and having major stats that govern them. Or really just anything more complicated than simply picking a perk and the starting trait stuff. I'll take janky gameplay with deep rpg systems over great combat with little rpg mechanics.

This has been my only real complaint against any of their games after Morrowind, I miss the more in depth leveling aspect, with a good amount of stats and different skills. The worst for me personally was going from Oblivion to Skyrim, where the class system and attributes were just completely gone in favor what Skyrim did. I still played it for like a decade, but I just really miss Morrowinds whole system, lol. Either way, I'm stoked to play, Bethesda knows how to make games that last.

When it comes to bugs we have to remember that with Bethesda games new bugs can come up even after polish. It might be buggier at release than it is now because they had to tweak or change something. It happens. I'll wait and see.

It would be so cool if instead the space map was a fast travel map and u could manually drive or activate auto driving while afk or in your ship
