As somebody who was a teenager in the UK when this song (and Arctic Monkeys' first album in general) dropped, I can't even begin to explain how these guys just absolutely exploded onto the music scene. EVERY kid I knew in school was bumping this song back in 2006. Man, it's crazy to think that was 16 years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. I’ll never forget listening to this song in my room while my parents complained about the noise, my mates and I blasting Arctic Monkeys in my crappy teenage car, and listening to this song in the club while we met girls who we'd never see again. The nostalgia is burning my soul, good times!

Fast forward a few years and I finally got to see them when they were touring for their second album. That’s still my favorite concert I ever went to lol

Highest selling debut album for a LONG LONG time, I was only 10/11 when this song came out😄 you should check out them playing this at Glastonbury in 2008, they are INCREDIBLE live, also they were only around 18 when they wrote this and released there first album!

The lead singer, Alex Turner had a side project with Miles Kane called The Last Shadow Puppets. They are less rock and more 60s/ Scott Walker / orchestral in style and are great eg The Age of the Understatement.

Local band from my village so got to know about and see them before they had any hit singles. The song is about the place they used to rehearse (an old steel workshop in a place called Neepsend just on the outskirts of a Sheffield city centre. The area was frequented by prostitutes at night hence the line “They Say It Changes When a the Sun Goes Down.”

This group is from Sheffield, a great city where people are direct and don't try to be diplomatic, so Arctic Monkeys are equally honest with the reality of what is the scummier side of life for too many people. I hope you noticed the reference to Roxanne, the eponymous character in Sting's song. Sting is also from the industrial north of England. My 12 yr old son introduced me to them in 2006. In 2018 my son, daughter and I finally got to see them live and WOW I was just blown away. They even did a White Stripes song which was awesome since the show was in Detroit. They are on my play list and I will definitely see them live again. Btw I’m 53yrs old and will always be a music lover new and old

Their first and imho best album. Not a bad track on it, pure gold from start to finish. Fastest selling debut album in UK history. It sold 350,000 copies in it's first week. One of them mine. It is without question my favourite rock album of all time.

I'm from Sheffield and actually the same age as most of the guys in the band. This video always connected with me, part of it being filmed by the Park Hill Flats and Arbourthorne Road. I used to live near Arbourthorne when I worked on Supertram. Just seeing parts of the city in the videos and sometime alluded to in songs adds to the connection for me.
