When this came out, my daughter was barely a year old. Every time she heard it, on MTV, she crawled as fast as she could, got up, and with a firm grip on the TV counter, she was jumping to the beat, with a happy smile on her face. She really loved this song.

Cotton Eye Joe is a traditional country song from the US that pre-dates the US Civil War (mid 1800s) and has been recorded by various artists since the 1920s. The song is country, so this is more of a cross-over with euro-pop.

It happened at every party. Just imagine being in a huge room with at least 100 people all doing a full on organized square dance and yelling BULLSHIT at the same times several times throughout the song. It was weird. Everyone knew exactly how to do the whole line dance, and yet no one ever remembered learning it, certainly not at school. It was like it was in our DNA. It was magical! Bwahahaaaa!!!

Nah, pretty typical eurodance. Crossing any type of song with dance beat is standard. The results can be unusual but the process is standard eurodance. Joikhu, yodeling, gregorian chanting every type of folk singing or instrument to a beat is big part of what makes eurovision what it is.

@Daniel Olsen oh my god yes! I live in Nashville now, but in high school I was in a small town in Oklahoma. EVERYONE knew the entire line dance. It was a huge wagon wheel of people, with people lined up as spokes. It had rather elaborate steps, and specific places where everyone yelled, “Bullshit!” Every single person knew it, every single step, and yet not one person could tell you when or where or how they learned it. It was like it was in our DNA.

It was also one of the songs that *everyone* got up to dance for at school discos (or now weddings) - the others being 5678 (by Steps - another country/pop style song), YMCA (Village People - you've listened to it), The Macarana (Los Del Rio, and Saturday Night (Whigfield). There were others too but mass join in with a certain dance/action songs were a big thing in the 90s and so much fun.

Please make reaction to Diana Ankudinova - the most unique young talented singer. One of my favourite things to find and enjoy is music that gives me chills and goosebumps. I was cruising KZbin recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. Her delivery was nothing short of magical and I searched out more and more and more, and...more chills. I was stunned to find that the first performance I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 17 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English and Arabic. The covers she performed on that show are very popular on KZbin. Many KZbinrs publish reactions on these performances, which include the ethnic song "River" (in a new musical arrangement), "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", "Human", "Derniere Danse", "Helwa Ya Baladi" and others. Please react to one of Diana's songs and I promise she will surprise you.

I swear every time I watch this I catch something different but I love how you always pick out the instruments that’s very special. Playing banjo is one of the hardest instruments! Let me correct myself, playing banjo well it’s very difficult! L O L. Finally probably the first Belly laugh I had all day even though I’ve seen this but I know where to go when I need to cheer myself up
