The Red Special was built from wood salvaged from a roughly 100 yr old fire place. It took two years to complete. The guitar was painstakingly designed to sustain and feedback to give those rich, high end, fuzzy tones. Not only was Brian May an amazing guitarist, he was such a genius he constructed a guitar version of a stradivarius violin (look it up) to provide the sound he envisioned. The story is too crazy to be real. Brian May was a modern day renaissance man (again... look it up). He BUILT HIS OWN MASTERWORK GUITAR, MASTERED THE INSTRUMENT, WAS AN IMMENSE COMMERCIAL SUCCESS , (and more impressive) A CULTURAL/HISTORIC INFLUENCE. After his life in the spotlight he returned his intellectual pursuits. He was well on his way to a PhD in astrophysics in the early seventies when he decided to pursue his musical aspirations. After his career as one of the greatest (let's say top 25, easy) rock guitarists of all time he went BACK TO SCHOOL!? Worth millions, 59 yrs old, got his PhD in astrphisics. DAMN!

No backing tracks, no background singers, no headphones or earbuds to hear, just 4 amazing, brilliant musicians playing to stadiums of 80,000 to a couple hundred thousand down in Latin America. The only band better than Queen, was Queen when they performed live. I highly recommend you react to their live stuff, as it always has incredible energy and never repeats. Freddie used to say if you want an exact duplication of the record to stay home and to listen to it. The show was for entertainment and fun! And "Is that his full range?" Hell no, that man' 4 octive range could out-sing the angels!! Can't wait for more Queen!! White Queen at the Odeon Hammersmith is an excellent start at early Queen!! Thanks so much for reacting to the greatest live band ever, or so their award says!

this is why I have such a hard time appreciating the big ones out there getting paid 250 a ticket to perform, because they seem to need to put on some spectacle of a show, but I grew up on this stuff where they were so good that they needed nothing more than a stage and a band and a crowd. "Is that the full range of his voice?" Awww, hahaha. Nope. He had an insane vocal range! 4 octaves. He even sang some opera later in his life - listen to "Exercises in Free Love"! He's commonly considered the greatest male rock vocalist of all time, plus one of - if not the - greatest frontmen ever. Definitely watch Live Aid! They had a 20-minute set that's been voted the best rock performance ever, plus he sings some classics: Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, and We Are the Champions are in there, plus others you might not have heard.

From his opera album with the gifted spanish opera singer Montserrat Cabbalé, I would recommend the song "How can I go on" as a start. It's easy to listen to, perfect and beautiful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX-vq4CaosSaq7c It's from 1988, when he has been diagnosed with AIDS, which was like a death sentence back then.

Codex7777 I mean that’s true, point taken! I just mean that if you search greatest male rock singers he often comes up first and is voted first (like by WatchMojo, etc.) I personally think that trying to choose one best singer is impossible because no one person can sing everything. Like you said, there are singers who can sing things Freddie couldn’t, but that also went the other way around. I think he’s commonly voted the best (not my opinion, like I said, the common consideration) because of his range and the number of genres he was comfortably able to cover. But yeah, there are definitely “better” singers in other respects. I think his personality also just made him more fun to listen to!
@robinaddis-vaughn7271
@robinaddis-vaughn7271 5 жыл бұрын
YES, he did. Jim Hutton and they were together until Freddy's death of complications from AIDS (pneumonia). He had a 4 octave range, which is why he wouldn't have his teeth fixed. He thought it could possibly affect his range. All 4 members of Queen wrote number 1 hits, all 4 members could sing but Freddie has been voted the best frontman in live shows. The band has been voted the best band in live shows. Brian May, the guitarist that you pointed out, is Dr. Brian May, astrophysicist. You can follow him and Roger Taylor on Instagram and they do respond to some of the comments. Of course, Adam Lambert is the frontman of Queen now and he's like the love child of Freddie & Cher. Watch LiveAid, it will change your life.

If you have seen the movie, that is the concert pseudoFreddie is showing Mary and tells her he is bi/gay (shit... spoiler alert if nobody realized he was 😂). Well, technically he had two loves. Jim Hutton as mentioned above, and Mary Austin. He was engaged to Mary before he accepted his sexuality, but was lifelong friends with her and left almost everything he owned to her (He said if things had been different she would have been his wife and have had them anyway) as well as his ashes. She is the only person who knows where his remains lie, as promised to Freddie before he died, she has never revealed where they are. My favourite live Queen performance has to be White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975, the way Freddie's piano and Brian's guitar intertwine is spine tingling and Rogers drums are exceptional as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGnYpIGgad1shKM

Why Freddie Mercury microphone stand? Here's how that happened: early in Queen's career, he was apparently mid-show when his mic stand snapped in half. Instead of having it replaced, Freddie just used it as-is. He must have liked it, because he used the mic "stick" from then on.

Freddie Mercury - Lead Vocals/Piano/occasionally guitar, also degree in design and created the Queen logo to incorporate all the bands astrological star signs. Brian May - Lead guitar/vocals/occasionally piano/keyboards, also a Phd in Astrophysics and built the guitar he plays when he was a teenager with his dad as they couldn't afford to buy him one. It is called the Red Special and is made from things such as an old mantelpiece, a table top, knitting needle and mother of pearl buttons etc! It is still his main guitar to this day. Roger Taylor - Drums/vocals, also a degree in biology although he started out studying dentistry. Finally, John Deacon - Bass, the only member who wasn't a regular vocalist, but had a degree in engineering and built a specialist amp called the Deaky amp using stuff he found in a skip! It allowed Brian to do even more with his already amazing guitar. An amazing band that had the rare gift of being even better live than in the studio and covered so many different genres that many believe they are a genre all on their own. Welcome to Queen, a journey that will take you from Ballad to Diss track and from Speed Metal to Waltz ..... Enjoy! Edit : Oops, forgot to mention, they wrote their own songs and all four of them wrote hit songs for the band. E.g : Freddie - Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody To Love. Brian - We Will Rock You, Who Wants To Live Forever. Roger - Radio Ga Ga, A Kind Of Magic. John - Another One Bites The Dust, You're My Best Friend.

Lfc Rules - Don't forget Deaky occasionally played piano and on a couple of songs (Cool Cat, Back Chat, Need your loving) was the guitarist. He also wrote over a dozen great songs solo (and several with Freddie) and a few were their biggest hits. Some of my favorites by Deaky, Need your loving tonight, You and I, I want to Break Free, Who Needs You, One year of love, In only 7 days, Friends will be Friends, Spread your Wings, If you can't beat them, Misfire, Rain must fall...to name a few. All four did write great stuff and all four were very different personalities with different musical tastes. That's what made them great. Roger could also play some guitar. I saw them live and they were definitely the only band I can say was even better live than in the studio.

Yes, he found somebody to love. In the last years of his life he was in a very stable and loving relationship. You were so concerned with Freddie finding somebody to love because he puts so much passion and emotion into his voice with every song, he makes you feel like every song is real and present. Great reaction.

1981 concert is one of their best - from the same show... try "Save Me" - Brian (guitarist) starts on piano and then transitions back to guitar with Fred back at keys... it's flawless! (and yes, he did finally find "somebody to love" - took a few years, though... )

Like many other people here, I'd suggest you react to Queen at Live Aid 1985. That will really show you Freddie's mastery of involving & controlling an audience. As a charity concert it had a hugely diverse line-up and tickets were on sale, if not already sold out, before Queen were confirmed as appearing. So it's definitely not a Queen crowd and yet all 72,000 in Wembley Stadium and also all the people watching on-screen at the partner concert in Philadelphia were right in the palm of Freddie's hand. Second suggestion: Queen - Death on Two Legs. You may perhaps think you've heard a diss-track or two. Not until you're heard Death on Two Legs you haven't! 😁

Check out Somebody to Love 1981 Live. Watch the way he moves his mouth and uses his breath. He uses his entire body as a conductor. Just absolutely brilliant. Considered to be the best vocalist in the world. Could sing 4 octaves. Look that up to see how rare that is. Brian May, was his front guitarist. He was a genius in his own right. Brian was not only gifted in musical ability, but he was an ASTROPHYSICIST! They are the greatest band in the world!! I love the way you comment. You truly listen to the music. I can see where it moves you. And you don't talk over the music! Hallelujah! I've watched other commenters, and they stop the music every 3 seconds throughout the song. A great number of them look as if they have AD/HD. Thank you and Well Done!

And that's what has been missing in your life up to now. Welcome to the family of Queen fans all over the world! All their live performances were like this. Energy, talents, and charisma. My special favorite is a live performance in 1976 You Take My Breath Away. Nothing but Freddie and his piano. Nothing else required. A whole new range of Freddie's voice, and his emotions showing in his performance.

a concert-vid from 1981 in HD?!?!! ... yeah, queen was always ahead of their time! queen decided to film a concert in best possible quality and bring it to the cinemas/movie-theaters ... they decided, so they did! :-) original the sound is even recorded in surround sound!!! and yet, there is a THX 7.1 mix avaible! hard to find another band who did it, because that was quite expencive! i mean, we are still talking about 1981! queen = best and most innovative band in the world!

I was actually at that Show at the Montreal Forum in 1981 !!! The first live concert I ever saw in my life and was blown away ! I had just turned 15. The ticket cost me $ 22.00 in the nosebleed section... but I could still see the stage very well because of the Forum's layout (used for hockey games). when Freddy Mercury said Bonjour Montreal ... the crowd lost it ! The show lasted for over 2 hours and Freddy would engage the crowd in singing along to certain songs. Stomp stomp slap, stomp stomp slap, stomp stomp slap, stomp stomp slap .... Those rows of lights in front of the drums flashing at the same time ... the entire building was vibrating as we all did it ! and Freddy let us go on for a bit before starting the song. Of course, I'm talking about the song We Will Rock You. This live concert is available on KZbin, it is a montage of the 2 consecutive nights that Queen played at the Montreal Forum. Special fact about this : The next day of the 1st show, Freddy Mercury was widely criticized by the local press about him only performing for the cameras that were filming rather than performing for the crowd of fans. On the night of the 2nd show that I attended, after he greeted us with ''Bonjour Montreal'' and we all then went nuts ! He went on to say that he had read the papers and that he was very disappointed but mostly sorry and he wanted to make things right with us .... he then said, and I quote ''so tonight, fuck the cameras'' ! .... of course, we all went nuts ! .... and got treated with an awesome show !

I saw them on the opening of the US leg of this tour, for their album "The Game", in September of 1980 at Madison Square Garden AND again during their tour for the album "Hot Space", at the Garden again, in the summer of '82. Billy Squier opened for them, should check him out!
