Hello Steeler guy, I am from the Pittsburgh area. I saw The Beatles in September,1964 for my sixth birthday at the Civic Arena in the Burgh. Brings joy to my heart that some blacks get it. Great music is great music. As white kid in the sixties and the seventies until disco hit in 76 I had a lot of the old Motown records along with The Ronettes, Shirelles and a lot of the soul music, it was great music. I'm happy to see a number of young black people reacting to The Beatles now. They seem to be blown away by them. Go Pens!

SGT PEPPER gets all the attention, and we all know why. But"REVOLVER was their first "mature" statement. Of course RUBBER SOUL is a masterpiece, but (to me) it's a transitionary album, with one foot in the past and one foot pointing forward. But everything on REVOLVER suggests there's no turning back. All that said, ABBEY ROAD is my favorite album of theirs. Their most mature statement, and sadly, their final statement. It's a bit like comparing Beethoven's 5th Symphony (revolutionary!) to his 9th Symphony ("here I am, this is me, and this - as an artist - is what I want to say.") Of course, as with Beethoven and with The Beatles, why choose? Each piece is so important in its own way, and all are masterpieces. a careful reading can only hope to distinguish historical impact. The quality is already a given.

When I was battling cancer, without getting too dramatic about it I was in a bit of strife and seriously thought my days were numbered. I speak to my brother almost daily online and we are both into music, all my family are, and I told him I’d like this song played at my funeral. It’s just so beautiful. It's a perfect piece of poetry set to a perfect melody and the harmonies are what made The Beatles stand out. We’d buy our new albums and hang out with a group of friends, listening to the whole thing over and over, crawling over liner notes trying to figure out the meanings of songs, etc. It was awesome, but I’m thrilled that decades later, other young people are doing the same, just on a much bigger level. Amazing. Keep ‘em coming. The Beatles discography is immense considering the short time they were together, but in my opinion, they are the 🐐. 🤘🏼

I remember laying on my sofa listening to this when I was a kid and loving it without fully having the understanding I have of it today. Paul & John were like in their 20's when they wrote this! HA! So amazing. I wrote the lyrics to this on a paper bag and gave it to my (husband now) back when we were dating. It's one of the sweetest love songs, in my opinion ever written.

The instrument is actually a piano piece their producer, Sir George Martin, played on a regular piano at normal speed (his speed). It was sped up to fit the song speed and consequently sounds almost like a harpsichord.

I tear up every time I hear this, my fave song. It will be played at my funeral. My sis and me went to buy a new computer at a big local store in Bristol, UK store 2 weeks ago. The young guy took us to the computers and then this song came on in the store. I lost my wife 2.1/2 years ago followed by our eldest brother a few months later. Jean turned away as he spoke to us and I saw her face cracking up, which got to me and I turned away barely hanging on. Fair play to the guy, he realised that all wasn't well and he turned it off in the whole store. This is such a moving song and one of the best Beatles tracks ever.

By this stage their lyrics were much influenced by Dylan. However, there is a sweetness to songs like this. Dylan was too rigorous to do sweet. That little high note at the end showcases the Beatles charm and playfulness.

Jagger/Richards would never have written Satisfaction without that push, plus the lyric-writing inspiration of Dylan. So, yes and no. We are just lucky they all healthily competed because their combined mid-sixties output is a treasure.

So true Earl. I remember The Beatles on Ed Sullivan and I was a fan for life. I remember so many adults at that time complaining about their music and their long hair. I remember thinking how these are 4 guys wearing white shirt and ties under a suit. Some real bad influences huh? I think a lot of those folks came around to liking them.

@@mikeguerrero72 I think they must have. It was Brian Epstein who dressed them up and made them a boy band but that didn't last long thankfully. John performed with a toilet seat around his neck in Hamburg and they were forever getting into trouble and up to all sorts. Typical youth I guess. I absolutely adore this song. I'm on in my mid 40's so wasn't around for them then but grew up with Beatle songs as the soundtrack to my own youth (along with Bowie and Iggy Pop of course). Lennon was an incredible writer. My fav of the four. It's fantastic how people still get them to this day.

@@emander8340 so very true again Earl. I think once they knew they were a success here in the U.S. they got to be more themselves. I'm 68 and after hearing that first song, I was hooked. Like you, John was my guy in the group but I can't deny those harmonies with Paul. George also had his place in music along with Ringo. Some of Ringo's best drumming is in Day in the Life. With each verse his drumming gets more beats. Rubber Soul along with Abby Road and Sgt. Pepper are fantastic. Actually, Beatles 65 has a lot of my favorites too. Mr. Moonlight, No Reply and too many others to remember. Just a fantastic group of guys and losing John so soon really hurt. I was watching that football game when Cosell announced John had been killed. I so hoped it was a mistake be sadly, it wasn't. Where were you when you heard about John?

@@mikeguerrero72 Hi Mike, I was likely running around asking for biscuits as I was only 4 back in 1980. I used to sing imagine with my back to everyone when I was that age so my Dad must have told me at the time as he was a massive fan when he was alive (maybe jamming with him now, who knows)! The four work perfectly together and I do love the other three but aye, John for me. Paul could rock and sound sickly sweet at the same time and of course he is a fantastic song writer. Ringo still looks great and is the oldest by a few months over John. I was in work when George died. I remember that well. It must have been thrilling to hear them for the first time and at an age you were able to understand. My own kids know the Beatles too of course. Today's music is completely different. Everything is too precise and perfect (plus sounding the same, though that could just be because of growing older, not sure). Each generation thinks they know more than the last though haha. I'm delighted I discovered reaction videos to the songs and artists I hold so dear and even better is that it is people from a different generation and culture. For me it shows how music crosses any divide or differences people may have culturally. Jayveetv is outstanding. Lovely young guy who makes me smile at his passion and delight. 😊 oh aye and Ringo is just perfect. Underrated drummer. I think people like to say he's no good just for something to gripe about at times. It wouldn't have been the same if any one of them had not been in the band. The sound is what it is and I personally loved George Martin's production. It may not have had a hard edge but the innovation and quirkiness are two of the many things that continue to keep the tracks sounding vital and fresh to these aging ears. Good to meet you Mike!

@@emander8340 if you haven't seen it, search the night John Lennon died on KZbin. Because it's history, I think any Beatles fan should see it. It tells a sad story but it's a night that put me in a sad state of mind for several days. I like these reactions too because seeing someone react to songs I cared about and still care about is hopefully going to inspire others to do those same styles of music. I believe a good song will always be a good song no matter what. The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five and so many other groups made great tunes, at least to me anyway. My dad was a musician so I grew up hearing all kinds of music. I like songs from just about every style. From Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett to The Rolling Stones and The Animals, if you like it, that's all that matters. Living in San Antonio Texas I hear lots of county rock but you're going to like what you're going to like and that's all that matters I guess. Good meeting you too Earl and music can bring folks together as good as anything. Keep listening and pass them down to your kids. You never know the good that can come from it.

George Martin played on a regular piano at half speed an octave lower than the song. Then he sped up the tape to make it sound like a harpsichord. Martin really helped The Beatles a lot in the studio. I got this bit of info from a book 'All The Songs' which goes over the production of, well, all of their songs.

This song reminds me of my grandad. He got me into the beatles when he brought my dad the beatles rockband for christmas not long before he passed away just over 11 years ago. I was only 8 when he died, I hope he'd be proud of me
