I feel so bad for Eddie Jones. Twice, he was traded away from a team that won the title the following season. Traded by the Lakers in 99 and Heat in 05. Brutal.

Trading Shaq was the correct move for the Lakers Owner Jerry Buss as opposed to paying $30M annually which would have been 65% of the entire salary cap. Shaq was only MVP-level, Top 5 player in the NBA Shaq for the 2005 Regular Season. From the '05 Playoffs onwards Shaq was just an All Star level player and from 2006 Playoffs onwards he was just role player.

Shaq began to decline
@AgentJ2007Ай бұрын
Absolutely, everyone knew shaq was on the decline and probably only had 1-2 all star level years left. It was much safer and wiser to built around Kobe.

42-40 as a 4th seed?
@KarlMalowned324 ай бұрын
Yeah the East was a joke that year. Only 4 teams in the East had at least 42 wins that year. Pacers and Pistons were solid though. LeBron’s Cavs missed the playoffs by one game, with a 35-47 record.

The Miami Heat core of Shaq-Wade was supposed to win it all in the 2004-2005 season, but they had that HORRENDOUS game 7 loss at home against the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals. This was the Heat season to win it all, mainly since Shaq was still an MVP-caliber-player. They won like 60 games and were just dominant. The Heat swept their first round series against the Nets, and then swept their second round series against the Wizards. Not only that, but this was a young roster overall. Next season, 2005-2006, Shaq was no longer an MVP-caliber-player for the rest of his career, nor an All-Star-player for the rest of his career, and because of it, the Heat no longer had that eliteness in them like they did in the 2004-2005 season, and they were also no longer a "young" team since decided to go for more of a veteran roster after the 2004-2005 season. Again, the 2004-2005 Heat was their season to win it all, with 2005-2006 being their "try to repeat" season. Meaning, they should have broken this roster up after the 2005-2006 season and gone younger and rebuild, and trade all their veteran players, even Shaq, after this 2006 season to a younger contending team.

That 2006 Heat Team were the Worst NBA champions in the last 45 years. From being NBA champion to being the 7th Seed and getting swept in the 1st Round the very next season. Embarrassing
@MrLp19804 ай бұрын
They window was small from beginning after trading for Shaq. Mourning, Walker, and Payton were all past their prime. Even J Williams was old too. After 2006 title that team partied all offseason and wasn’t focused nor in shape for a repeat. D Wade was injured a lot after the title. They got what they wanted and blew the up. Trading Shaq cleared up room for that big 3 era.
