That 08-09 season was crazy for D-Wade. Truly a MVP caliber season and the one that cements him as an all time great, given that all his championships happened with superstars next to him. He proved he can lead the league in scoring while being very effective as a guard and staying available.

As a Heat fan who remembers this championship, the ‘06 team has to be one of the ones with the lowest “repeat potential” in modern NBA history. Outside of Wade/Haslem, much of the squad was old and nearly all of them were out of the league by 2011, including Shaq. Maybe if the Heat won in 2005, they could’ve repeated, but that ‘06 team was destined to be one-and-done, Shaq was declining fast
@makwabear4078

Facts. When I think of lowest "repeat potential", the ‘06 Heat and the ‘11 Mavs come to mind. Both were eerily similar, but at least for Miami they had a young superstar in Wade and could TRY to build around him (we all know that didn’t happen in hindsight until Big3/The Decision).

Yh we should have repeated. 05 Shaq was still Shaq and Wade was taking the league by storm. It was due to Wade's rib injury that we didn't beat pistons. I'm confident we dismantle Spurs too as again no one is stopping Shaq/Wade.
@iansanchez966
@iansanchez966 4 ай бұрын
@@Bmw968-t8t Don’t forget that the ‘05 team was a bit younger, we had Rasual Butler/Keyon Dooling/Damon Jones. Riley made the big trade that summer that brought Toine, J-Will and Posey to Miami. Maybe the ‘05 team was built to last a little longer, but with Shaq as the second star, that build had an expiration date. Would’ve been cool to get a second ring out of it tho

Considering that they had former all-stars and White Chocolate past their prime, it's amazing that Wade carried them to the championship. He gave famous chucker Antione Walker a ring. One of the best carry jobs no doubt. As you said @AndyHoops, injuries caused the team to regress quickly from NBA champions to a lowered seeded team that either didn't make it past the first round or missed the playoffs. The parallels between the 06 Heat and the 11 Mavs is not lost on us.

@@ryanr20091 I don't know if they were a one hit wonder but they were definetely on a time limit. They were real contenders on 2005 and 2006. The problem is that they had a lot of veterans. Wade's health was also a big problem and Shaq was getting more lazy which caused him to have a lot of problems with Pat Riley. They were a Wade injury of defeating the Pistons on 2005 and we saw how extremely close those Pistons were of defeating the Spurs on the finals. Hell if Rasheed didn't leave Horry open then those Pistons would have repeated as a Spurs fan I am happy that Rasheed made that mistake. Old roster, Wade injuries and Shaq being lazy as hell made them probably the worst defending champions on 2007.

Don't like how he made it seem like Wade couldn't get his team past the first round "until lebron came". Uhhh he led his team to a title before lebron did and arrived. I think Shaq was a poor trade choice since he both he and Amar'e played close to the basket. Marion shot about 35% from three at the time of the trade, so he could space the floor for Shaq. Gary Peyton was the reason why the Heat won in 05'-06' by telling Shaq to hand over the team to Wade. Which was something Shaq couldn't do in LA with Kobe. Then Wade just took over in the finals. I actually told my friends in high school that the Bulls were going to beat the Heat. They thought I was bugging.

Something of importance not mentioned = This Miami Heat core of Shaq-Wade was supposed to win it all in the 2004-2005 season, but they had a HORRENDOUS game 7 loss at home against the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals. This was the Heat season to win it all, mainly since Shaq was still an MVP-caliber-player. They won like 60 games and were just dominant. The Heat swept their first round series against the Nets, and then swept their second round series against the Wizards. Not only that, but this was a young roster overall. Next season, 2005-2006, Shaq was no longer an MVP-caliber-player for the rest of his career, nor an All-Star-player for the rest of his career, and because of it, the Heat no longer had that eliteness in them like they did in the 2004-2005 season, and they were also no longer a "young" team since decided to go for more of a veteran roster after the 2004-2005 season. As you mentioned, Heat won 52 games in the 2005-2006 season, and they werent that dominant team anymore and mostly benefitted from the East being weak this season (asides from the Pistons, Cavs, Nets). Heat even struggled in their first round series against the Bulls (who only had a .500 record of 41-41). And in the second round, many were picking the Nets to beat the Heat, and the Heat even lost homecourt in the second round against the Nets after losing game 1 in Miami. But then afterwards, they turned it on and backdoor swept the Nets by winning the next 4 games, beat the Pistons in 6, and made a great comeback against the Mavs to win it all. Again, the 2004-2005 Heat was their season to win it all, with 2005-2006 being their "try to repeat" season. Meaning, they should have broken this roster up after the 2005-2006 season and gone younger and rebuild, and trade all their veteran players, even Shaq, after this 2006 season to a younger contending team. Heat had no chance of repeating nor being great in the 2006-2007 season with the same roster that won them the title, even if they didnt have all the injuries. If they were healthy, they would have been a 4-seed at best, and would have faced off against the Bulls either way in the first round, and would have still lost to the Bulls in the first round (except I doubt that they would have gotten swept). Bulls went 7-1 against the Heat in the 2006-2007 season (4 games in the regular season and 4 games in the postseason, and also they played them tough in the playoffs the season before)

@@younglove3362 I’m not a Lebron Hater. I just made a simple statement. Wade had the momentum early in his career and Lebron literally had a harder road to a championship than all the other greats like MJ,Kobe,Magic,Bird, etc. before he went to Miami and created the trend of a SUPERTEAM ! People might forget that about Lebron. That’s all I’m saying. I never hated Lebron, I’ve actually been a fan of him his entire career! But only rooted against him when he went to Miami Lol

I think the Heat has the same trick now, they know when to push for it. That championship team wasn't the best in the league, no chance. Same with the latest two finals appearances. But they just knew when to go and when to invest. That's actually what made me a Heat fan; growing up watching Wade and knowing that the team will reach it's potential when the moment comes. As a grown man now with less and less time to watch the games, that's what keeps me going after the Wade era, that trust. I hope it stays the same
