If there’s one thing I truly appreciated about Jay, it’s that he played Joey’s songs just right. He didnt appear to try and make them better or play them with his own style, etc. That was THE song, so that’s how it gets played. And I’m sure a lot of people loved Jay for that. Best of luck to him, and Slipknot. I hope both have fruitful journeys ahead.

@@matenorth That’s what I’m saying! I love the way Jay played Joey’s songs. He played them “right.” I’m not saying he played them note for note. Even Jim openly says he doesn’t memorize his own solos. He plays a different version of it nearly every time. Also, I like how much harder Jay hits than Joey did during live performances. Sometimes, you couldn’t even hear Joey’s cymbals. Jay, that’s never been a problem.

I was a huge unqualified critic of Jay at first. Joey was my idol drummer, Slipknot a huge influence. There was a gap for sure. Watching and hearing this shows how much Jay grew into the role. I still miss the energy and commitment Joey put into songs like this but the sound and feel Jay got here is pretty damn awesome. Respect!

The tone of ALL of the drums is phenomenal for this genre. Snare has SO much crack, toms have just the right amount of sustain, and kick sounds like a metal kick should, IMO. Great playing, too. You did an incredible job filling impossible shoes for a decade. I hope you have great things coming for you in other endeavors.
