@@kikipeterson7886no really he was talking about Beyonce. He left a couple of hints. He was famously with B at the time. He emphasized "Bey" in the first sentence of that verse. Beyonce was 23 years old then and everyone knows she was working working. Last, it was a rumor they broke up during this time and he basically confirmed it in this song. But they soon got back together in Beyonces video. Upgrade you.

As much as I agree with you, come on man, the third one is way more real. Relationships hurt and everything, but this man bought a car for his nephew, and he died in it. The Colleek verse means so much more, maybe not to all of us, but he feels responsible for a death of a family member. It may not be as relative to your life as the second verse, but respect should be given to someone as famous as him putting out something like losing a family member. Not everyone is brave enough to do that.

I don't think people truly appreciate the word-smithing at play in the second verse. We know Jay-Z can pump out the hits but I always believed that he was an underrated lyricist. Absolute legend.
@LunarPrism348 жыл бұрын
I think he's amazing, and he's at least top 20, but he's not top 5. He's great and I love him, but he can't compete w/ people like Eminem, Tupac, Dre, etc.

i have to admit, i know the song; i loved the album when it dropped. i don't remember what else was going on in my life then, but it's only now that i'm peeping the wordplay skills on this. i'm ashamed to be so late on this boat, but happy to listen to the lp again with new ears.

+Lunar Prism why the fuck do y'all put dre as a top lyricist. He doesn't even write it. It's written by Em, Royce and other people around him. Lol dres not a rapper. But when something needs to be said by him he has people to help
@LunarPrism347 жыл бұрын
It's the other way around. Half of Eminem's shit is produced by Dre. There's one song by Dre that was written by Eminem, and that was I Need a Doctor. Dre is original. Hell, he's the one who started realism rap, like Jay-Z, Eminem, etc.

“Can’t run from the pain go towards it, so things can be explained what caused it.” That’s the realest line to ever be explained because nowadays we see people running from the pain or be in denial and hold on too much they will never understand what was the source of it until they confront it.

Exactly. Very revealing to me. Maybe not in the sense MOST see. Smh. All that he's "sacrificed" to get to where he is NOW. People hate words like "devil worshipping & illuminati" so...i won't say em. He's his OWN God🤔 (HOV). These are HIS words. HOWEVER, fame is HIS game. Lose some to win some... that he did. Can't run from his pain so he ran toward it. And ever since, He's lived by the motto "Can't beat em, join em!" & THAT he has. Can't deny Jay's talent. He was chosen. Sad how many will & HAVE followed "suit".

When he said" can't run from the pain go towards it" that shit hit deep. My pops died when I was 6 and I never went to go see him until last year. That was like one of my childhood trauma that I never healed from until I went to go see him. And I can say man I'm at peace and this song was like the spark for me to let go of my past traumas. Love you Jay z ❤ man you and my pops share the same bday Dec 4th...

@@altdelete7696 I can't front... I missed the Beyonce reference and as many times he inflected his voice on the letter "B", I should've known but around that time he was being linked to a lot of females so I agree it was obvious but a very slight chance it could've been someone else. But in present day, it's clear as hell and I'm kicking myself. Lol. I think I was 19 when this came out.

I remember I was in Perth, Australia in nice hotel room. I was on the phone with my girl at the time mom and she told me my girl was cheating on me. I just went to the balcony lit up a cigar poured up some Johnny Walker black label and vibed out to this joint. Probably the most relatable Jay Z song ever. No drugs just real life, real pain, and real shit. We've all taken an L or two. Life aint called Life without the L.
