This man understands jazz. Less is more.

It definitely depends on what the musician proposes. Bebop is a subgenre which requires a gazillion notes per minute by design, f.i.

Like he says, “sometimes.” Music would be pretty boring if it was all just 2 notes.

Plain n simple this man let his very soul speak through the double bass Mysterious, semi-dark, and has this Spacey type feel like floating in the empty void letting the DB's voice sing for you with NO thought put into it....letting it come naturally

This man taught me more about jazz than any music teacher I’ve ever had.

Rufus lets his bass play music. He doesn't try to impress anyone with how many notes are on his bass and doesn't try to play as though he was being paid by how many notes he can play.

‘You don’t need but two notes’: proceeds to play about a dozen notes 😂

I believe he meant two notes occurring at the same time in relationship to each other. Simplicity of a single line melody over a seemingly stagnant undertone.

He’s talking about polyphony and the tendency for jazz musicians to use dense chords with alterations and what not.

He’s speaking harmonically not melodically.

I wish I could love Jazz music. I like it but I grew up on Funk and R&B. The upright bass does not fit in that genre.
