Cory Henry lives in a world of harmony that nobody else goes to
@rev.e.regisbunch4097 Жыл бұрын
Only white people do not know the world of harmony where Cory Henry dwells. Black churches and Black musicians have been playing like this for centuries. Check out the Harlem Renaissance, Oscar Peterson, Theolonius Monk, Herbie Hancock, and many many others.

He always seems to pay attention to inner voice leading, especially his tenor/lower middle lines. Gives you a lot to think about!

I believe that's because of the organ being his principal instrument and the way organists and pianists move harmony around in church can similar but quite different

The man has the ability and talent to do whatever he wants on the piano/ keys. Like a conversation through instrument. He's like talking through the keys. So he has a big vocabulary. Most musicians, are limited, while he talks/goes wherever he wants on keys

Exactly, Only musicians can truly understand what your saying though.

That's a brilliant choice of words: "goes wherever he wants on keys". We all should use our keys to explore our musical world.

I love how even in the most random Of imrpovisations infront of kids in a school, he pulls out this. Straight up one of the more heartfelt and beautiful versions of autumn leaves that i have ever heard. Probably the most covered and “cliche” jazz song out there, but he played it with a breath of fresh air. Cory is a generational phenomenon.

@chefsize3 жыл бұрын
He announced he changed the sound by accident. It’s some sort of digital piano. He must’ve fat fingered a key and hit a button on the console, I’m guessing. You can hear it gets quieter and has more reverb until he changes it back.

Its crazy because,as a singer,I imagine the perceived best will always come across someone that they themselves view as better. Then,there's Cory Henry. And while,he may by some stretch of the imagination,encounter a musician better...it seems EXTREMELY unlikely when you see the improvisation that he layers on top of the basics.
