@jazzguitarneophyte-christo79885 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Funny you asked as I was going to send you a PM but might as well put it down here. It is going well. I told him that though I would like to learn jazz, I would really like to learn how to read music because that was the biggest mistake I made as a guitar player! My goal is to be able to sight read good enough to slowly get out of reading Tab and by this year's end, have a decent ability to study tunes in the Real Book and play them. I also want to get back to playing some classical pieces or classical type pieces like Cavatina (yeah I know that one is difficult), and newer ones like "Home" by Andrew York etc...So right now I'm playing tunes right out of the Hall Leonard Book #1 "Yankee Doodle", "Rockin Robin", "Ode To Joy"...very humbling but one needs to start from there you know....for the jazz part which is the other 30 minutes with him, we agreed to stick with the book of Mickey Baker, an old book that concentrates on the 26 most common jazz chords leading into vamps, improvisations etc. I can only afford once a week so still too early for me to tell how the journey will go.....so far it has been good as this man listens to me and then provides his suggestions unlike the previous one I had you know....On my own though I've really been fascinated by Ted Greene chord progression book so a lot going on but focusing on sight reading and theory right now...apologies for the long response....
@jazzguitarneophyte-christo79885 жыл бұрын
I forgot the most important thing! I was going to send you a PM since by his own admission, Steve is not too savvy on Bebop and I will need some instruction from you to at least get me started....

Sure, that's also possible. It's actually the same chord as a 7b9, without the root. The tritone substitute gives you a differnet color, though.

Hi Sandra, along with all other thanks - a quick theory question. A minor turnaround - why the 6th chord is a half-diminished one and not a Maj chord? And a 3rd chord you are saying as well? It is clear that 2nd chord has to be a half-diminished. Thank you.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman3 жыл бұрын
It could also be an altered chord (A7alt in the key of Cm), but not a major 7th chord. Amaj7 had an E now in it, and the C minor scale hadms an Eb. That's why you choose epithet Am7b5 (b5=Eb), or A7alt.
@vladstankaninets86203 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I guess my question is more towards this: if it is a minor key - why we are not following the rules of a minor scale of building chords - 1.min 2-dim 3.Maj 4.min 5. Dom 6. Maj 7. Maj Also, with that, say, the 6th chord would be A flat major, not Adiim or A7alt and so on.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman3 жыл бұрын
I understand, sounds logical, but the major 6th is used for Turnarounds. Ab would be the minor 6th. It just is what it is 😊

Der Dm7-Akkord im PDF bringt mich um. Mir tun die Finger weh. Aua 😂
@GuitarversumSandraSherman5 жыл бұрын
