This is wonderful stuff. Love Shelley Manne`s drumming. I was lucky to do a couple of gigs with Bud Shank at the Bull`s Head, Barnes. Thank you Shorty Rogers.

I lived next door to Howard Rumsey in Hermosa Beach. Shorty and the band would hang out a lot. The Lighthouse was happening, very missed. Fell in love with the west coast jazz style.

Love all these West Coast cats! Would have loved to heard Perkins play tenor--with that beautiful sound he had--and Giuffre play baritone, though. Thanks for posting!

Perkins on tenor and Giuffre on baritone......that is the correct direction, isn't it?
@danyelnicholas3 ай бұрын
@@peterfriedrich4632 I am afraid that Giuffre was already too weak or too subtle at the time. The others played so much louder than in the 50s!

Been listening to Martians Go Home since first recorded in the fifties I think, Shorty and Jimmy Giuffre on horns if you listen hard enough you will hear Shelly spin a coin on his snare, wow.

Ahhh, the West Coast sound of Shorty and his Giants .... it's simply can't get any better ...well, maybe if Frank Rosolino could have made this gig.
I knew that Cooper was a huge innovator on the oboe and a great arranger, but I never knew he was actually a giant.

@@forrestlowe4823 In 90s was talking to a jazz critic about the prejudice against West Coast Jazz and he was surprised because never heard of it, and then he said: "This is ridiculous! West Coast style is great jazz."

Not only do they not make musicians like this anymore, they definitely don’t make stage sets like this anymore.
