The things that are throwing me off the most about your version is definitely the cool colours and her facial features. Other than that, I'm highly impressed. No one could ever look at your painting and not know what it is supposed to be. And even though there's a difference between yours and the original background, it actually blows my mind how well you remembered and executed that part. Even though I've seen the Mona Lisa many times, I still think I wouldn't have known what to do with the background, if someone asked me to paint it from memory. You're truly an amazing artist, and you keep proving it time and time again.

You showed the Mona Lisa at the beginning of the video and I IMMEDIATELY forgot what it looked like 😂 The background was so tricky coz it’s kinda something you never think about unless you do so intentionally. I also started wondering halfway through the vid if her hands were in the right orientation but it was honestly a 50/50 😂 very impressive work from memory and entertaining to watch! Please do more 😁

The subtlety of the expression matches so well. I'm impressed (even without the eye bags). Also, I did not realize the Mona Lisa had a veil until right now. I always thought the weird line thing was a circlet.

I've seen pictures of the Mona Lisa done by Da Vinci's students at the time. They have been cleaned, which they'd never take a chance of damaging the real one. Those are much more colourful, and to make it look like the real one would take a wash over the painting to make it look like centuries of dirt and grime to get the colours we know. Good job though

They do conservation on Mona Lisa. This was probably a conscious decision as the original would be far more toward colder tones which is not in the public’s perception. People might perceive it a bad conservation and a damaged image, while in reality that’s a good conservation practice. The yellowing of the varnish is not how the original artist intended or would’ve seen his painting. Mind you, they have excellent conservationists that can easily do this without causing damage to the original, it’s a matter of applying science/chemistry.

In terms of recreating the Mona Lisa overall, before I saw the original, I would have said a 7, but after seeing the original I would go to 7.5-8. You are obviously more familiar with the painting than I am. However, I think you undersell your skills, Jazza. No one's da Vinci, but you have to separate style from technique. Your are so good at what you do and your content always brings smiles. Keep up the great work.

Your piece is definitely the Mona Lisa. There are some differences, colour pallet and face shape being primary among them from what I can see, but it's mainly nit picking. It could always be better, always be closer, but as a memory exercise, this is fantastic.

This is a great exercise actually. I do a variant of it from time to time, although just with drawings. First I draw a master study of some piece that I like, and then a day or so later I draw it again from memory. It's fascinating how I remember details as I draw them, that I wouldn't have remembered if someone just had asked me to describe the drawing.

I've never seen it in person but the #1 thing I always remember about the Mona Lisa is that it's got that ochre color pallet, so color wise I would have given you a 5/10. Competition was like an 8/10, and expression maybe a 6.5/10. Over all, good job!

I'm studying photography at the moment at RMIT and it's always been so beautiful to me that the Mona Lisa was painted in such a way that it almost feels photographic but has enough texture from the brush strokes to be recognised as a painting. Despite all the obvious differences and similarities that Jazza had, I knew that that factor would be the hardest to recreate because Da Vinci had a talent all on his own for how he painted, not necessarily what he painted. That being said, I was obviously really impressed with what Jazza did and I think it was such a hard thing to do that he actually did really well on

I do this but with songs - I listen to the memory of a song I have heard thousands of times over the decades but this was before I taught myself to play drums, bass and guitar. So I on occasions for fun play those parts of the song without ever having played those parts of the song ever, but because I know those parts of the song because of knowing the song so well in my mind and now knowing those instruments and how to play them well, I challenge myself and play them first time with no tabs or without listening to the song but all from memory of the song and muscle memory of how to play the instruments - it works really well!

As someone studying in the field of art and heritage, you did well on the composition and the overall recognisability. I'll just add that your flesh colours are a bit too flat and muddy. The painting originally would not have been as yellow as it is the heavy oxydation of the varnishes that give it this look. In order to keep the depth and vibrancy of your portraits, you can maybe try to do a grisaille or, in this case, a camaïeu (like a grisaille but with a colour like burnt umber). You can layer some coloured glacis on top of that. This really helps with keeping volumes and depth! But overall kudos to you, especially since it's not your domain of expertise!

The reference image you show at the end is WRONG! It has a terrible yellow cast. If you compare the video footage, or any modern photo of the painting, it is not as yellow as that reference image. I see this reference pic a lot, and it annoys me, because it is very wrong, and gives people a false impression of the colours in the painting.

This is so very, very lovely - your Mona Lisa has a character and a personality, just as much as the original does. I would say that I notice, in the original, that there is a barrier between the figure and the landscape: like the edge of a balcony or an open window looking out. Your Mona Lisa is outside, but I think Leonardo's is inside; there seems to be an arm rest for the lower arm, which allows for a certain relaxation of that resting arm and the one on top of it, and which also seems to direct the slight angling of the body. The shape of both heads is very close, that's really, really wonderful. I agree yours does look a little more "tired", but it could be that she sat for you after a hard, hot day. I like that you remembered the delicate tendrils of hair, and yes, the hair net. Very nice work, lovely.

The reason we all remember the painting as being far more yellow than it currently is is because it was cleaned/restored a few years ago and that completely transformed it.

Hullo Jazza, painting anything from memory is one of the most difficult things to do! I found your version quite close but off color or temperature wise. The hands are an easy thing to miss remember, but one that does stand out quite a bit when looking at side by side. Now you need to give a painting from reference a try! Good luck!

In my brain, she was wearing a maroon dress with a gold lined robe over top, lol, and I knew her hair was lighter than your choice, but I couldn't remember the background at all. I think you really nailed the face shape, hair style, and pose. I can't paint or draw faces at all, except for animal faces.

Voldemorty was the best description for your version of her face. Its like you were missing the details that you see when you push a finger into flesh. Concavity in the skin? Is that the word? Too flat? I feel like your background was like Bob Ross, letting the chaos of colors and paint strokes guide the imagination rather than the details that are deliberate in the Real Mona Lisa. And the colors were a little monotone when it came to her skin. I was actually surprised at how much detail went into the folds of the real Mona Lisa's clothing, the details of her hands, and her translucent head garment thing. I would say for an afternoon of painting and doing it solely from memory, I would give it a 7/10. If you had a weeks worth of time to work on the details even if you didn't make the same woman, just adding those small details, giving her depth, I would say 10/10.
