From the frying pan into the fire! People ask me if I play trumpet and I answer them with "Why, do I look like a fool?". I will switch off to playing electric bass when my trumpet chops get tired during a practice. Good for the chops and the ears! I have always wished that the trumpet was an easier instrument to play and enjoy. I still keep threatening to give it up after 50 years of letting it kick my butt.

I’m also a guitarist/pianist tryna pick up trumpet. It’s hard asf and I often wish I had purchased an alto instead(which I would have if it was cheaper😂). I’m determined to improv over standards like I can guitar.

Man I am a trumpet player coming back from a cut on my upper lip, had to change my whole embouchure, its been two years already, and I've been strugling making the instrument to respond quick. I am doing that one note thing only with the mouthpiece, at least half an hour spread through the day, and I have to say I'ts helping a lot, as you say it coordinate everything together, thanks for that. I feel it's gonna come back quickly. Happy musical journey everyone

Thanks for this video, I've only been playing for about 2 1/2 years now and have been using scales as my warm up routine when I really should be treating scales as part of my fundamental practice. As of today, I'm going to start using long tones as you suggest. Thanks again.

Kenny is playing a 180 Series BACH STRADIVARIUS -- as based on the following telltale / unique components: 1. Hexagonal end of the leadpipe, 2. Double Vertical Braces on the tuning slide, 3. Nickel / Silver tubing on the Tuning Slides and Lead Pipe (right at the finger hook), 4. Engraving on the bell (Vincent Bach signature w/ name "Stradivarius"), 5. 3rd Valve Tuning Slide "Extender Arrestor", and 6. Location of the bell bracing. We know that the construction occurred after the late 1960's due to the one-piece valve construction of the valve cluster --- vs the classic two-piece construction: Upper Baluster made of Nickel / Silver, while the Lower Baluster was Brass. Since ~2010, Bach has introduced the 190 Artisan series that reverts back to the classic two-piece, valve cluster construction. BTW, I am surprised that ANYONE would give this video a "thumbs down." First, Kenny is a SUPERB musician... just check out his performance in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hILRYoZ5p9N4mLs . Second, he is providing sound and proven advice that will benefit ANY serious trumpet player. I suppose that some people cannot recognize nor accept excellent methodology when exposed to it. All I can say is: "Their loss". Also, in the JLCO performance, there is another SUPERB performer sitting right next to Kenny..... Ryan Kisor... who makes his horn punch notes like master that he is.

I’ve been playing trumpet since 4th (2008) grade stopped because the school didn’t have a band picked it back up in 8th grade 2012 and have been playing every since . Since I’ve graduated high school i haven’t played as much . What type of routines would you recommend ?? I have a hard time in the upper register

I'm a bit late but I use the Arban which is basically a massive book with a bunch of exercises in it for all sorts of stuff, I'd reccomend looking it up

Trumpets are transposing instruments, meaning that whatever pitch actually sounds when I play the lowest “open” note on the horn (no valves pressed) that note is called “C”. The next open note is a fifth higher and is called “G”. If I’m playing my B-flat trumpet, those notes match B-flat and F on a piano. J.C. is probably right, because Mr. Rampton is definitely playing a trumpeter’s “G” and B-flat is the most common key for trumpets, so his note is “G” for a trumpet but F to a piano or a guitar or a chromatic tuner.
